I posted this on another forum when I probably should have posted it here instead. I keep reading about people who know where old dump sites are or people who just stumble upon these places and I was wondering where I might find some. I know every town is different so I'm not looking for specific answers. Right now I basically have a large field maybe 5 city blocks by 7 city blocks that my son and I go walking in and we occasionally find a pile of broken glass or really rusty cans just laying there and if we are lucky we find a bottle now and again but I think we have combed through the thing as best as we can. I live a few blocks from the Arkansas River and was wondering if there are any clues to finding dump sites along the river. How do you find these places? I've checked online for anything in Colorado and come up with nothing. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

hey krystal, youve come to the right place, check the river hillsides for old glass shards, possibly near an older nieghborhood,  check woods , look for broken glass, cans an such , you could try digging at the site you found the glass and rusted cans, good luck remember where you find stuff on the surface youll need to dig somtimes deep mike

Thanks for your help. I found 14 whole bottles on Sunday in the field just beneath the surface but when my son and I dug deeper we ran out of all the broken glass. Does that mean there could still be glass much deeper even though there doesnt appear to be anything else. I know each dig is different from the next but what do you think?

hi krystal ,
your in a good area there .im up in northren colorado now but i grew up in the central mountains and have been digging most of my life .theres alot of history down there, you had the gold rush that started around 1859 and there were some forts that were alot older than that .theres  also alot of indian artifacts and the spaniards came through there too.a good way to start would be to pick up some ghost town books .colorado ghost towns and mining camps by sandra dallas ,and colorado ghost town and mining camp guide by robert b.murray would be a good start. theres some realy good maps in them .

Colo. is a gorgeous place, but when I lived there I was so busy fishin & playin, I never even dreamed of diggin bottles.  I lived outside of Oak Creek, & LOVED it!  only thing I don't really miss is mud season.  I guess I am a flat lander now.  oh how humiliating!

Thank you. I did try and check at Barnes and Nobles to see if there were any books worth looking at but there werent any so perhaps with the ideas you've given me on what books to look for I can check out the library. Also thanks for the advice on private property and national and state land. I've pretty much kept to one small area but I want to check out other places so I can add to my bottle collection.

I'm actually in Pueblo but when ever I look for any information on Pueblo from the early 1900's or late 1800's I never find anything that has to do with bottles. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? Where did you find information on Pueblo?

Here's that site for that brewery in Pubelohttp://www.breweriana.com/history/historywalters.html.
Just won the Colorado drugstore bottle book by Glen Preble on E-Bay. And as soon as it gets here I will be able to let you know what kind of bottles you can find down there.

WoW!  Great pics!!!  I like the bottle pics.  I also really like the Walter Bro's historical pic.  That is an awesome pic!  Thanks for sharing all the pics of your bottles, the brewery link, and other information.   Good luck with your collections everybody.               Paul
