Ive seen tons of these Duffy whiskey bottles but never one like this. I bought it over the weekend and it has amazing whittle ( looks like it came from a wood mold ) and crude bubbly glass. I didnt realize that these bottle were made with such crude glass. The glass and whittle reminds me of the stoddard flasks I own. I was told that these bottles were dug at civil war sites. Does any one know if thats true? I see it is pat. aug 1886 was the civil war still going on at that time?

Nope, the civil war lasted from 1861 to 1865.

That is the nicest Duffy's I have ever seen.

I buy Northern California bottles. Also, "any" Jamaica Ginger that I don't already have.

When I use to make Civil Wars shows, I have been asked on more than one occasion if I fought in the CW. This was coming from late teens to early 20 year olds. Some of the 6,7 year olds we would kid with, being dressed in uniform I guess led to some of this.

Just a famous quote to answer the question of why history is important...

I always wondered on those Duffys, were the Baltimore ones made before the NY ones or at the same time. Seems like the later ones are always NY.

I sold a couple of the Balt ones for $20-30.  They all had the typical blobby tapered lips. What other lips did you see?

it's not the glass but the tempeture of the mold when it was blown. The wittle is usually caused by a cold mold. Might have been the first one blown that morning or the mold may have been dipped in water to cool. I've always assumed that a layer of steam formed between the mold and the glass causing the ripple effect. Course that's just me....
