This is a neat little item that was dug in a privy along with a few go-withs that have been dug and purchased.

The egg was for replacement under a setty hen when you took her eggs and wanted her to keep sitting untill you replaced them with the eggs you want to hatch.

The other items are chick waterers.

Hey John, No water in mine. But that reminds me of a funny joke about hobos and odd roosters.

Let me know if you ever decide to get rid of it.

I've seen several but don't what they are worth. I,ve only seen one on ebay and it was cracked.

My mom said when she was a girl her aunt had a dozen but she has no idea what they are worth now.

Just found one on Ebay. They go for $2 to $3 ea.

Madman, to me those balls you have look like clay “shooter” marbles. The eggs are made out of milk glass and are all hollow. I don’t believe I have ever dug one of those eggs but when my buddies dig them I always buy or trade for them because I think they are pretty neat. Correct me if I am wrong Warren but are the tips of the eggs pontiled?

Hey Tom, Yeah their pontiled. I used to have quite a few of them but they have gotten away from me over the years.

Hey Mike, if those are not clay marbles then they are very unique. If they are some kind of rock then I'd guess Indian gaming stone.

Nothing like a good egg! I dug this pontiled egg down the road at a old pre 1900 cellar hole, at first I thought it was a light bulb..... I have also recovered some of those rounded stones in my old farm digs, they are almost always a light or white color, I guessed they might have been a poor farmers sustitute for a setting egg or wanna be kids marble..... This is just a long shot but I once saw in a old mill a antique machine that used porcelain/ceramic rounded like balls in a large tumbler for polishing metal parts....Strange things show up in old digs like large colored elec insulators for houses that never had power???? Oh well my 2 cents worth..... Taz

Love the toy, Taz...

Electrolysis on the horizon? Or does that devalue antique toys?

Now they could be tumbling cporcelians.hadn't seen any for a long time and they are often mistaken for other things.

Hey Jim, Nice egg toys. They would clean up nicely.

Sorry madman, I think I read your post wrong. Now that I think of it, they do kind of look like ball mill balls for grinding up grain or corn. Just a guess though.
