Very new to the hobby and just getting ready to buy or try and build my own tumbler.  Maybe this is a dumb question but why do the stopples have finger or projections that center the bottle in the tube?   What would happen if the bottle was just loose in the tube, rolling much like rocks do in a rock tumbler.  Would the bottle subject to easy breakage or would it just not clean effectively?

Probably would shatter in a hundred pieces (or more) JMHO. Might try it with a bromo, probably not with a Bryant's bitters! Welcome to the forum!  Kelley

The copper makes the bottle very heavy. A rectangular bottle would most likely break. Plus you can get some weird, bad wear patterns on the glass if it isnt held in place. Its definately best to keep the sucker pinned down.
