Hello, I am guessing, but I think your bottle is a wine bottle. I am glad that you have posted this bottle on the forum. I have one of these myself, and yours is only the second one I have seen, although they may fairly common for all I know. The embossing on them is fantastic. Its a shame the name of the contents or maker was not embossed on the bottle as well. I wanted to do a search on eBay or the net in general, but without knowing the name, there is not a lot you can do to find out anything about it. I was going to post mine as well a while back, and ask the same question as you have as to exactly what it is, but have been too lazy to go out in the building out back to get it. I do not believe mine was a dug bottle, being it is super clean. Ought to have it in the house, as well as many others, but have no place for displaying many of them. Looks like yours is doing fairly well so far concerning bids placed on it, hopefully you will do well with it. I am also curious to hear from the members of the forum as to what this bottle is. Hey, maybe it is a whiskey bottle. Possibly MONK"S WHISKEY or something to that effect !

Digthem. I'd add that bottle to the whiskey category along with the one you have it listed in.

I vote with sunrunner. Most were made in Mexico. They were said to contain either Holy Water or nothing. Some also had a glass stopper and came in quite a few colors and different molds. I have a a yellow in another mold varient. There has been talk that some were actually old but nothing in an actual pontil period (pre 1860) to my belief., mostly 1900's.

Whiskey would be better yet. I was thinking wine considering the way the top of the bottle was made. The Misses is always saying I have no idea as to what I am talking about anyway.................

Regardless of where they are made, they are a super nice looking bottle, or at least I think so. I waded out through my swamp to the building out back and got mine this afternoon. Mine is a a darker amber than the one posted by John last evening. I like the lighter amber one looks better, it shows the graphics much better. I am posting a few pics of mine below. I am not sure of its age, the seam on the neck of this one is about a good inch below the top of the neck. I am thinking 1910ish, maybe a little bit earlier, but not much I would think. The embossing on these bottles are great. Its a shame the name and place it comes from of was not embossed on the bottle . Maybe you are right Eric pertaining to it maybe just being a religious item, maybe that is why it is not embossed with a name of any kind.

And one last one. I am wondering Eric, does the bottle you have illustrate the same embossing or are there some with graphics different from these ?

LC, the second one came out better with your pics. I didn't know what that was before. My guess is a brandy shape there. I think that might put it accross the big pond for that.
Anyway, if I guess enough, I'm bound to be right eventually I figure.

You may be right Eric pertaining to it possibly being a Brandy. Lobes seems to think it is a Whiskey, I thought it was possibly a Wine. The top reminds me of the way the top of a Benedictine bottle is made. I believe it is a wine isn't it ? Then again, maybe I am wrong pertaining to the Benedictine bottle ! I fugure that surely one of us has to be right !!
