Greetings all,

I have a Rothchild 1972 wine bottle with contents that I would like to restore. The contents has evaporated a little so I would like to know services in the NY/NJ area that can seal the cork so that the contents do not evaporat further.

Welcome to Antique-Bottles.Net !!

Fine wines like this need to be stored in the dark, at a controlled temperature around 50 - 55° F and on their side. If the bottle is stood on its base for any length of time the cork dries out and shrinks. The wine then comes into contact with the air for a prolonged period and is ruined. I am sorry to say that it sounds as if this has happened to your bottle . If it is any consolation 1972 was a very poor vintage anyway and should have been drunk by now.

If you are keeping the bottle for sentimental reasons you could try the following: Tilt the bottle so that the contents come into contact with the cork but not so far that the contents would spill out if the cork were not there. Over time the cork will expand and re-establish a seal and you should be able to store the bottle on its side without leakage or further loss through evaporation.
