That's what I was thinking. Old plumbing was odd by today's standards. Ball floats are all but non existent now. How heavy is heavy? It looks about 5-6" diam. and two part hollow.

No fuse swiz. Positive to the top ring and neg to one of the three grounds. How long are your jumper cables?

I second the toilet float.

Not sure why it's so heavy though - filled with water/mud?

Wow, how hard can this silly thing be. I can assure you that this thing is not meant to float. Even if it was a toilet bit then what the hell would you need 4 loops on it for? That's a lot of loops for one crapper. Is that in case 3 people flush at the same time? A modern 3 holer in porcelain form?

The 3 on the bottom may just be to keep it from rolling over. With the weight it may be a ballast of some sort. I don't know what but probably not for a clock or window sash. Maybe a dumbwaiter or fireplace gizmo?
I really have no clue, I'm totally clueless.

Interesting and I thought it was a down rigger weight. I suppose it could be anything I want it to be.

I'm pretty sure thats what it is. The side with 3 hooks faced up and connected with chains to the part of the lamp that fastened to the ceiling and the side with one hook faced down and held a smoke bell.
