YOU GUYS WERE RIGHT! DIGGING IN TRASH CAN BE FUN! - 9/2/2006 10:35:20 PM    3emarketeers   Posts: 83 Joined: 8/30/2006 Status: offline HEY GUYS, I READ ALL THE EMAILS AND POST REGARDING MY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW YOU GO ABOUT DIGGING FOR A BOTTLE.  SO TODAY I SENT MY KIDS OUT TO DIG IN THE PLACE WHERE MY GRANDPARENTS USE TO DUMP TRASH OUT BEHIND OUR HOUSE (OUT IN THE WOODS)  WELL THEY WERE ONLY OUT THERE ABOUT MAYBE AN HOUR, AND THIS IS WHAT THEY BROUGHT BACK.  ANHEUSER BUSCH BOTTLE AND PABCO LINOLEUM CLEANER BOTTLE.  THEY CLEANED UP PRETTY NICE AND THERE IS STILL SOME AQUA BLUE-GREEN CLEANER STILL  IN THAT BOTTLE.  DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE WORTH ANYTHING, BUT IT WAS KIND OF NEAT!  THANKS   _____________________________ Angela Post #: 1

DIGGING IN TRASH CAN BE FUN! - 9/3/2006 1:11:30 AM    3emarketeers   Posts: 83 Joined: 8/30/2006 Status: offline Hey Warren, I didn't really even think about that being my grandparents stuff , but, you are right, it more than likely belonged to a member of my family.  There use to be a little community of about 10-15 farmers that lived out there and most of them were related to me one way or another.  Everyone dumped there trash out there.  I should do a family history, but, you know what they say about us southerners, I might find out my mom is also my sister and my cousin, and I cant afford to buy her 3 xmas presents every year.     My boys are not even the least bit interested in looking for any of that stuff.  Maybe they'll get more interested if I can sell it on ebay and get them some money.   Does anyone know if those bottles are worth anything?  (in reply to capsoda) Post #: 7

DIGGING IN TRASH CAN BE FUN! - 9/3/2006 1:35:41 AM    JGUIS   Posts: 1931 Joined: 3/18/2006 From: New Lexington, OH Status: offline I'm not sure about those particular bottles, but there is stuff from that period that sells.  Glass motor oil bottles with decent paint jobs, probably some ACL milks and sodas out there.  You never know till you see whats on the bottom.  If they dumped there as a community, it may have been used from the beginning of that community.  The older, the better, but some painted stuff does all right as long as it's in good shape.  Just beware of the collectors curse, or you'll be tripping over bottles before you know it. _____________________________ Problems are not solved by the same level of thinking that created them. THIS IS A REALLY WEIRD LITTLE BOWL OUTSIDE CLEANED UP NICE, BUT, INSIDE IS AWFUL WHAT'S REALLY NEAT ABOUT THIS IS MY MOM REMEBERS USING THAT AS A LITTLE GIRL. IT SAYS 1851, THIS ONE IS IN REAL GOOD SHAPE. THE OTHER ONE IS VERY WORN ALMOST SMOOTH FEELING.  CAN'T REALLY MAKE OUT ANY OF THE WORDS OR NUMBERS.  I THOUGHT MAYBE BOTH COINS ARE THE SAME JUST THE OTHER ONE IS VERY VERY WORN.   _____________________________ Angela (in reply to huffmnd) Post #: 12

A word of advice though DO NOT use metal polish or anything abrasive to clean them. It cuts the value of them in  half. Try using a soft brush and run the tarnished/dirty one under some warm tap water and lightly scrub and see if it cleans up any. DIGGING IN TRASH CAN BE FUN! - 9/6/2006 11:39:12 PM    JGUIS   Posts: 1931 Joined: 3/18/2006 From: New Lexington, OH Status: offline Haven't you heard?  It's always my fault.  The wreath on the coin on the right is very similar to an indian head cent around that time frame, but the ones I have are regular size as far as pennies go.  As for the other, wear means use, use means value.  Just not sure how much.  So how did they end up finding coins instead of bottles? PS- Eat some garlic in the morning, go to the dump in the evening, the bugs will leave you alone.  And isn't your state limited to one common poisonous snake, found in the swamps?  They are usually long gone by the time a noisy human gets close.(hint, hint)  If you want wild animals to disperse from your general local, talk loud, take a stick and tap bushes in front of you while you're walking, they'll leave. < Message edited by JGUIS -- 9/6/2006 11:43:36 PM > _____________________________ Problems are not solved by the same level of thinking that created them. DIGGING IN TRASH CAN BE FUN! - 9/7/2006 4:57:27 PM    3emarketeers   Posts: 83 Joined: 8/30/2006 Status: offline Sorry, can't post anymore pics of the coins right now, we sent them to my brother today.  He knows all about coins.  He's going to clean them up and send them back.  I don't know why these coins were out there.  The coins and a few marbles were inside this bottle, which had alot of dirt in it, but the boys said it was sticking up out of the ground only buried about 4-5 inches down in the ground.  The bottle doesn't look very old to me, it is in really good shape. It's a big 4 liter bottle.   We live in a very wooded area with lots of swamp areas and ponds, so as far as poisonous snakes, we have 2 types of rattlesnakes, Cottonmouths and I have heard we have Coral snakes out here, but I have never seen one.  My kids are very knowledgeable when it comes to safety in the woods, we have 3 very large dogs that go out there with them, and although I know there are dangers out there, I think for the mostpart they are very safe.  They are really enjoying this. Your right about the snakes. Where you are there are 2 types of rattlers, cotton mouths, coral snakes altho seeing on is a very rare occurance and worst of all copperhead moccasins. It is breeding season for copperheads and they have a perticularly nasty disposition. When we find one in the yard, usually my boys catch them and we haul them off to a desolated area, but, I don't let them mess with the cottonmouths.  I have never seen a copperhead around here.  I've seen Diamond Backs, Timber Rattlers and the Cottonmouth water moccasins.  My kids are so proud of themselves with their finds, but, I don't know what I am going to do with all there stuff if it can't be sold on ebay--LOL.  They are excited about ebaying their stuff.  I explained to them that it wasnt all worth money, so they just gave me their finds in my curio cabinet.   Look at what my first gift is...3 one gallon jugs--- I don't know how well those are going to look next to my Disney snowglobes!   _____________________________ Angela (in reply to capsoda) Post #: 18
