These are some yard sale finds from today. I stopped at this old digger's sale last week and talked bottles for quite a bit. I bought one and told him I'd stop back in and give him some fresh digs. I called him over to the car and he was very happy to get the box of bottles for free. I almost hopped in and took off but said what the heck. I'll look around and see if there's anything new. Sure enough there was this E. Hartshorn bottle for a buck. This is a slight variation from the one on your site. The one you have only says BOSTON mine has MASS added to it. I wasn't sure if it was of any interest to you. Anyway here's the pic.

I believe its what they call a Snap Case Mold and thought this long rectangular shape was kinda cool. The sharp piece of glass where it was snapped off is dead center and about a 1/3rd of the length of that rectangular shape.

I also got me a freebie. It was cracked but I'll still display it right next to my Indian Oil. Kickapoooooooooooooooo!! Gotta love 'em.

Now let's play name that pontil. The pontil I paid $5 for and the other bottle which I think looks like a refired pontil I got for a quarter. Only one problem with the refired pontil theory. It looks like a common bottle, why would it be refired? So I'm guessing that it just missed being pontiled.

Which one do you think is pontiled?

I would have thought the flared lip and not the rolled lip but that's just me.

That's my great score for today. Yard sale total....$6.25. Bringing home a pontil is a beautiful thing even if it isn't a great one. Swiz

That's an interesting hartshorn bottle. Its a late bottle, probably no earlier than the end of the 1880s I would guess. It appears to be a cup mold as is typical with end of 19th century meds. Looks like some type of repair on the front edge of the mold.
I am mostly looking for the earlier ones but I'd trade you something for that one just because its a little odd.

I was planning on keeping it and was just wondering if you wanted to add the pics to your site. I can take more pics in better/natural light for you if you like. I've seen quite a few of what I thought were called Snap Case Molds and none of them have had that weird rectangular shape on it. Maybe Red Matthew's or one of the other glass experts could shed some light on that little rectangle. Swiz

snap case or higne mold typically has a diagnal line across the bottom and the mold was a two part deal. The cup mold had a cup-shapped bottom part (duh) and a front and back. Looks like they did some work on the front bottom edge of that one.
That photo is fine, I will try to remember to add it to the hartshorn page.
