Hello all.

I have just dug up..... well, actually...uncover would be a better term.....  a Davis Pain Killer Bottle.
My question is........  I see many Davis Veggie Pain Killer bottles, however, this one is not embossed with "Vegitable".  It is embossed with Pain Killer on Both sides.  Is it older - newer - or just different?

Interesting... I havent seen an early one without vegetable. Yours looks early but its hard to gauge the age from that photo. Can you post a clear photo of neck/lip and bottom?

Perry Davis was based out of Providence, Rhode Island until moving the company to New York in 1895. The older bottle are typically more squarish, with shorter necks, while the later bottles tend to have the longer neck and sloping shoulders.  Your bottle looks to me like a later bottle, but I am by no means an expert on dating them. The Little Rhody Bottle Club book does not list a variation without the "vegatable" embossing. Hopefully it's a one of a kind!

Here's a link to their online book, if you haven't seen it, and some pics of the earlier and later styles.

This pic is the earlier style:

This is a pic of the later style. Notice the longer neck and shallow sloping shoulders. Good luck, I hope you have a unique one!

It would be nice to see a clear photo of his. The 'DAVIS' embossing looks more crude than on the later ones. A photo of the bottom and the lip would tell us a lot more.

Thanks for the comments.
A little more info...
My home was built in 1862.  I found the bottle under the edge of the porch, when I was doing some renovations.  It was not buried.. just lying there....waiting for me I guess :)

looks like a later bottle possibly after 1900 from those photos.

Hi Zeronite,
I was wondering if you were interested in selling it.  I have a few Davis bottles, but one w/o Vegetable embossed sounds nice.  Just email me at Tmac02892@mail.uri.edu if you're interested.  Thanks,
Taylor
