Had a puppy 7-8 years ago. He (it) got busy on some family photos. They were stored in a cardboard box under my bed. I know, not the best place to keep the family treasures but I ran out of room for my junk long ago.
I scanned the original at the higest dpi this rig would allow and started reconstructing, some sections pixel by pixel. It took three days about ten hours comp. time total. Fried my brain and had a headache almost the entire time but I'm pleased with the results. Copied it to disk and will have a pro print it, hopefully on cardboard stock like the original. Got 3 or 4 more to go though. My Grandfather is seated on the far right, about eighteen years of age. Replacing his left foot was a project onto itself. The photo was taken in Worcester, MA at Cambridge St. School I believe.
Alas the dog is no more, poor Yorik.

Just sharing, Lobey.

Excellent job Richard. I have done a few and I know about the headaches and burning eyes at 3AM.

Several years back, after losing my Mother, I ended up with family pictures. Spent hours upon hours trying to fix many of them, so I can relate to what you fellows are talking about as well. Here is a Pic I did of my Great Grandmother, she worked as  switchboard operator for the Sardinia phone company, ( town I grew up in). This picture was solid creases. Spent quite a few hours on this one alone. I loved her shoes. And the spittoon, I wonder if she chewed ! I went through all the pictures of my family. When I got them all done, I burnt them onto disks, and gave one to each member of my family. Found a lot of great pictures that I never knew existed.

Leo i love that picture! Your Gramdma is lovely. There's a plain, simple honesty in that face. Those where certainly better times. A huge part of the reason I collect and love these old bottles is the connection with those simpler times. It stirs something in me. By the way, your Casper's in the other post is a bottle to die for, congrats!
Lobey.

Thanks Richard, I know a fellow here locally that offered me a mint Casper's Whiskey a year or so ago for four hundred. I had thought about buying it and try and resell it to make a profit, but was not sure if I could turn it after putting that kind of money into it so I passed on it. I do not know if it is still availabe or not.
As for my Grandmother, from what I was told, she was a great lady. She died a very painful death from cancer.
As for collecting bottles, I have always had a sense of attachment pertaining to history. When I used to dig in Cincy years ago in a few ash dumps there that I felt so lucky as to ahve found, my main interest as to bottles I really liked were the sodas. Every time I would dig one out, I would just sit there and hold onto it for a few minutes, trying to visulize what might have been going on around the person who drank from it at that perticular time in history in Cincinnati. Said that once a good many years ago to someone, and I can still remember the look they gave me, as if I were some kind of an idiot! Well, as Joel says, everyone has their own opinion of things, or thinks differently from others, that is what individuality is all about.
My Nephew and I have been trying to put together a record of our family for a good number of years, still have a long way to go. Many pictures needs to be put on the site, and we continue to look for more info on our Family. My Nephew is the one who created the site. I need to get him to move on adding pictures, seems he says he has little time, but I believe that anyone had at least a half hour of time each day to do certain things other than the norm. Might try to get him to give me password to the site, and I will get it done myself. If you would like to check out this site, feel free to do so. Just go to,,,

Sharing is caring Ronny    Here now is a picture close to my heart. The Soprano's have nothing on a few of those fellas. In fact one of them died dancing lol. The smaller of the two girls is my aunt. The older beautiful girl my grandmother, the woman who would eventually marry the gent in the previous photo.Top row is Joseph, Franky, Louey and Patrick (Patsy) c.1910. The Sunday mornings and afternoons spent with those guys cooking and eating are dear to me. Made me the cook I am today, not to mention 40 pounds over weight and a cholesterol count teetering on a perfect bowling score. The qualities a little low due to shrinkage, much better on this end.
Lobes.

Great job of editing Richard. I have not attempted to fix any photos as of late, but I learned one thing I think most important when attempting to do any editing of a  picture, and that is be in the frame of mind to really want to do it at the time of your choosing. You will do a much better job with them if you are. And if you aren't do not make the effort at all. Or at least that was the way of it with me .

Hey Lobe, it looks like my family on my mothers side. Both my grandparents came from the old country. Didn't speak 'good englissa'. During the sixties gramp use to say.... you-a gotta heada lika cheeekin. ... in reference to my hair.

I too miss them greatly. Good people, strong on family and it shows today in thier offspring.

Your paternal side looks English, Welsh or Irish!

Hey Lou, of course she chewed. BAck then everyone, almost, did. Even the kids. She is beautiful and I love the victorian setting
