I have only recently acquired this exciting new hobby as my husband and I discovered a dug-up area of a former dump. I am finding it quite exciting! I have to say that I am quite captivated by the brown (or amber?) bottles that we have found and have a small collection of 5 in our kitchen window.
We know absolutely nothing about bottle collecting and would appreciate any sort of feedback....

1. My absolute favourite bottle: A brown bottle embossed with oak leaves and acorns all over, Seagrams on front and " mighty oaks from little acorns grow" on back, RD 1933 on bottom along with an 8 and a D in a diamond shape.
2. Curicones small amber bottle
3. 2 oz Bovril Ltd with MADE IN USA on bottom
4. small amber jar with no markings
5. bottle similar to shap and colour of old " stubby" with an indented area that has a line through the bottle identifying 1/2 cup above and below the line

Also...blue MIlk of Magnesia, clear Hawes Lemon Oil, tiny Yeast-Vite with lid

We have no idea if any of the bottles are worth anything or even worth collecting for that matter. We find some of them beautiful and are enjoying the digging!

Any advice for us newbies?

Hi Paisley,
good to see new collectors starting out and having fun .
The best advice I can give you is just keep on digging and looking at the net for info, also do you have a local club ? if so you will find an endless amount of info from the members.

I HAVE A LOT OF BOTTLES IN MY COLLECTION THAT HAVE LITTLE OR NO MONITARY VALUE.. I THINK YOU SAID IT BEST KEEP WHAT YOU LIKE AND ENJOY THE DIGGING. THERE ARE A LOT OF BOTTLES OUT THERE THAT HAVE LITTLE VALUE. KEEP IT UP AND SOONER OR LATER YOU WILL HIT THE JACKPOT. HOW OR WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FINDING YOUR BOTTLES?? KNOWING WHERE TO LOOK AND DIG MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. READ SOME OLDER MESSAGES IN DIGGING AND FINDING. THIS MAY HELP YOU LOCATE OLDER BOTTLES. IN GENERAL OLDER BOTTLES HAVE MORE VALUE.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! In response to Diggerjeff' s question...There are some piles of earth above an area that was a dump until the early 1940' s I believe. Every time we walk by with our 15 month old son, we walk over the piles and eye them. I guess we aren' t really digging at all! Everything we' ve found was visible from the top. The best days are those following a rain storm of sorts. I' m not sure that we are actually allowed to dig because it is university property. We live in Ontario, Canada.
