Hey guys… went to a local guys shop the other day (he is kind of an antique dealer/collector/hoarder)… a nice old man with a lot of unique things, to include bottles… during our visit I told him about this jug and he told me he wanted it… I have no real attachments to it but also have no idea of value… seeing as I am just going to trade it to him for some of his bottles (he has some really sweet local stuff), I thought I should at least walk into the trade with some kind of clue as to value… any ideas? Thanks

Hey Ben

It's a bank from "The Fair" department store of J.J. Reigeluth From.

Sorry, I have no clue as to value, but know they are quite collectible. Good luck trading.

"The Fair Store on Main Street. It opened in 1890." From.

I can imagine that would be pretty popular with some of the Pa stoneware collectors. I can't help with the value or rarity either, but there are alot of Pa collectors here that should be able to help give you an idea. There are a couple of bank mini jugs from here in Missouri that are quite scarce and sought after.

I would say, with the store and town on it, I wouldn't dare go under $50 for it. But to be honest, I think it'd be closer to $100. Think about it, banks can't be very common... They were broken to get the monies out! Very niece piece, I'd love to find a local one.

IF it was from my area, I would not blink at paying 100.00 for it, my wallet would get rug burn being pulled out so quick........
