In one of my local towns, theres the remains of what was once a great industry..limestone burning in great kilns to make the plaster that was sent by schooner all over the east coast in the 1800's.  It began in the early to mid 1800's and was over by the turn of the century.  After the last train carts were done dumping all the impure lime waste in massive piles by the river, the locals started throwing their trash on top of it.
That's where I come in.   These lime piles have always turned up something for me when I have an hour or so to spare, and when I was younger, I found the remains of three different historical flasks here. I look around these piles every year. Got a few pics for you.

This lid says "vantines"   and "new york"  has what appears to be two crossed flags, one looks like the Japanese flag, the other has a dragon on it. Wierd but a good early screw on lid. Anybody want to guess what it went to? I don't know.

are you finding bottles at the base center or top of these piles? those ash hills could be sitting on top of an old town landfill.

At the top.  The topsoil has managed to cling onto the top of the piles, thats where any bottles that are whole sit, in about two to three feet of trash.  The hills are quite steep so anything that is near the bottom is broken.

Vantines was a perfumer who was big in the 1920s.
Here is another oriental motif product on fleabay ...

Yours is probably a face cream or some other scent/makeup product.

Looks like you have a great local place with some interesting old industry like my local slate quarries and railroad.  We have what's known as the dust mills, mountains of waste slate dust.  Does that affect the creek?  I'm thinking limestone creek is better than coal creek but hows it fare?  I think the toilet water is an oil bottle.

The condition of the river is fine because the limestone is all calcified at the base..it looks like the inside of cave walls or something. Kinda creepy formations. I've tried digging into the lime but it's just deeep lime.  There is an occasional pocket of cans and bottles but most of whats left seems to be near the top.  The riverbanks on both sides are littered with old stuff, so I jump around from spot to spot, year after year, hoping for an untapped area. It's fun but not too productive.
