Did anyone find anything famous at the Reno show? I've seen a couple of posts on the blogs but only referencing a couple of bottles...

I didn't pick up anything crazy good. I did buy some nice western glass for some smokin' deals. I picked up a green shear top umbrella ink (i collect the western shear tops) for $120.00, a green mint walker's vinegar bitters for $20.00, and numerous western Jamaica Gingers and such. Probably bought around 25-30 bottles in all.

Best bottle i saw change hands was an aqua Dr. Wonser's Indian Root Cylinder my buddy dug go to a new home for a good chunk of change.

Darn, sorry I missed the Reno show. I can't recall the last time I saw even a couple good Western jakes at one show, much less a bunch. Mostly all I see for sale are the later-model "curved R" McMillan & Kesters and E.G. Lyons. The late 1860s/early 1870s M&Ks/Lyons are so much more crude than the later variants. I don't think I've added a jake in 15+ years...and counting. Any chance you could post a couple of photos of your Reno bottles?

There were some nice bottles that changed ownership at Reno, but none that I really needed. The only things that I picked up were a couple of cheezy Cutters. No good advertising showed up, either.

Hey Mike, If i remember right, you had some great advertising at the show! I was really tempted to buy those 4 pieces you had, just a little more than i had in the bank account at the time. Being 26 and getting into this game is hard sometimes. Good thing my dad has educated me pretty well . Did you ever end up selling those 2 bottles and related advertising?

Hey Jason, i took pictures of the stuff i bought at Reno and have been gone for a week and a half and haven't had the chance to post them for you. Sorry about that. The quality isn't the best, but here you go. I'll try and throw on the pics of the rest of the junk i picked up tomorrow evening when i get a free chance.

Here is another Lyons i picked up at the show for 10 dollars. My friend dug both of these somewhere out in the desert....and the second one had about 50% of an intact label on the back. He quickly wrapped the jake in some plastic wrap he had on a sandwich in his lunch container and it actaully has preserved it pretty well!!!

Three western pint flasks i picked up for 20 dollars each. I LOVE Oakland Glass Works products (OGW) and have 5 flasks that have the base embossing as such. The other two star based flasks i picked up cause i have a small color run of them at home.

Here is another OGW bottle i was able to pick up at Reno this year. It is a quart ammonia in a straight amber color with a tooled top. Again, i LOVE OGW products and will one day have to share my collection of the glass with the forum.

And the last one for tonight was a nice mint large black glass Hostetter's that my friend (the guy who dug the jakes) pulled out of a super dinky Gold Rush town site 3 years ago. He need some extra cash because of tight times, so i was more than happy to pick this up and add it to my collection of applied squares.

hostetters can make a nice color run, and cheaper than a color run of fish, ears or corn or even drakes.

Thats a nice example.

Hammer whittled E.G. Lyons...for $10 each. That's what I used to pay 15 - 20 years ago. And one with a partial label - amazing! A really nice G. Venard, too. Excellent additions. Gotta try to make that darn Reno show next summer!

The jakes are real crude and nice,...love the black Hostteter's, but this bottle is awesomely cool...Is it a sauce or a spice bottle?

div2rot-Hostetter's do make an absolutely beautiful color run. I have a few Western square bitters that i'm working color runs with right now

Lordbud-Yeah, my friend has always been more than fair with me on prices. Doesn't hurt that he and my dad used to dig together in the 70's and that they still keep in contact at least twice a month! He always tells me he loves the fact that my father and i share the hobby together.

JoetheCrow- Thanks for the comments Do you collect jakes also??? The Vernard's are a spice bottle that come out of San Francisco. On the opposite panel of G.Vernard the embossing reads San Francisco.

Ken S. had one of those OGW flasks on his table. Is that the one you picked up? As I recall, there were plenty of great bottles at Reno, just no killer Cutters for me. I tend to be channeled in my searching and fail to "see" the "big picture". Too darned long in the hobby, I suppose. On the other hand, I was able to make a SUPER SCORE yesterday. I have wanted another of these for many years after selling my other one over 25 years ago. Buffalo Brewing Co 1902 calendar. The condition is nearly perfect, the marks are just glare from the quick photo. Not to worry, it will be framed properly ASAP.
