Can that soap really be from 1806?

I think that is just the founding date of the company.
Your bottles are nice and would be desirable to collectors.

The hair bottle is harder to say, I have not seen it and it doesnt appear on Don Fadley's Hair Raising Stories so it isnt common. I would assume its related to the Susan A Allen family in NY. I cant really see the lip, or bottom in photo. Is there embossing?

Status: offline 		Welcome Dean,  Those are very nice bottle finds.  The soap appears to be lye soap. It has the right color and appearance.   My Aunt used to make this stuff outside in a cast iron pot.  I've actually made the stuff  myself. Appears that this was factory made using molds.  I'm surprised that it has survived any lenght of time, because it tends to dry out and crack over a period of time.  Was it found in a sealed or airtight container?   Just curious.

Status: offline 		I posted a picture of my Gidding's bottle some months ago, maybe years...my example is etched from years of being buried whereas your example is shiny mint as if found in a  basement crawl space or an attic...?
Hey for a dollar I couldn't pass it up -- etched or not.

Status: offline 		You could probably tumble that with a light cutter and get rid of most of that etching without hurting the embossing much.

Status: offline 		I'll post some better quality photos in a few days and then you guys can decide who wants it. I'm also posting to another forum that I found at the same time as this one - one guy wants a photo of the bottom of the bottle? whats the deal with that?

Yes the Dr S.M. Gidding bottle is all shiny, was in the wall cavity. it is exactly the same as your bottle but clear and clean etc.

The hair tonic bottle is shiny as well but the label is worn etc, also appears to have something around the neck - some kind of thread or similar etc - I wasn't sure if I should cut it off or clean the label etc so just photographed as is.

Status: offline 		The Gidding bottle should have a rough glass scar on the bottom where a pontil rod was broken off. As far as I know they never made a smooth base version of that bottle. A photo of the bottom is good.
Dont clean the bottles or the label , they are fine as they are.
