Dug this a while back and haven't cleaned it yet.
Thought the handle was unusual.
Sand chip pontil?
Stands just shy of six inches.
There is an angel with outstretched arms near the base.
More pics available. I'll post several here, consecutively.
Thoughts on age, origin, collectibility, etc are welcomed.
Thanks,
Bill

Those are supposed to be from Mexico, blown sometime around the 1960s.

The solid pontil , applied handle, poor glass quality, and lip style all seem to say later Mexico. Maybe some crude european import. You dont see the solid pontil mark on early stuff in my experience. Just my opinion.

its kind of an odd blobby mark with maybe a partial curve of a rod there. Definately looks atypical but I may be looking at photo wrong.

even still, alot of early english bottles have the solid rod pontil, for some reason it seems like i heard somewhere that these were supposed to be TOC, but i dont know why or where i heard that, so take it with a grain of salt

It certainly looks like it was buried for a while. I'd like to hear where it was found and in what other stuff was found with it.

That looks like a solid pontil. An open pontil looks like a hollow ring. The early flint glass bottles had solid pontils. But other than those, a solid pontil is usually a sign of newer art glass. The glass handle was applied from the bottom and pulled up. Odd as it seems, that wasn't done until the 1870s and later.

I was thinking the same age by the handle. It's very similar to ones on Victorian Art Glass. If it is vintage 1870 or so it also kinda looke like an irregular improved pontil hinge mold. Anyone elso see it that way?
Just one thing odd is the bubbles. What does the wear pattern on the base look like?

I think it looks more Mexican than a lowrider on it's way to a pinata party! The lip, pontil, bubbles, and handle all look wrong. There are Victorian era Madonna bottles as someone mentioned but this doesn't appear to be one. There would be no purpose for a handle on a bottle of this size,I think it is a fantasy bottle from down South.Just my two cents,Doug

All the known to be Mexico that I've seen don't have the extra girth detail at the bottom. They were taller and straighter than this one.
I'd also like to see what era finds came with it. I found a Wheaton miniature in the past that was scattered with some 70's back to 40's stuff which was close to some TOC.
Does anyone remember the tales of people burying stuff to age them? Maybe they forgot where this was buried.
