Hi I used to use a metal detector in the woods for old logging dumps. I learned just a couple of things that may help you. I learned once when going thru an area that I never thought anything about. I just had the dector on the ground just in case and I got a hit, dug down and would you believe a metal file on top of a old wiskey. The whiskey had a hole in it. Well I did and you ahould stand back of the area and look at the trees, you should note the smaller ones as the once cleared of area(Your town). Then I look at the type of trees growing there, should they be there in a wooded area or did man plant them. This might help, you should not see grass in woods, but I spotted one area where quack grass was growing and with other evidence (A Heavy metal anchor) this was the area the animals were stored. Also found and mapped the logging railroad with the detector, they took the rails but left the spikes. Anything that just does not belong in the woods. Good luck David Dearden
