It's just a deer skull but it's still pretty cool!! I went and hiked back the side of a mountain were I was told some dumps were and found one or two potential spots. It was getting dark and I started heading out and there laying beside some large boulders was this eight pionters skull. I don't know how it got there and there wasn't any other bones around. Nice deer head for just walking through the woods!! In the pic I am cleaning & bleaching it. The blob is one from jersey that I've had that is super sick and I was just interested to see what the bleach does???

Cool! I would check out how to preserve it. Unless you already know!

Nice find! Every horn I find is all chewed up by little mice and other small animals . I saw this thing on Dirty Jobs once where there was a guy that cleaned skulls for a living - might want to find out who they were!

I'm not sure about where you live but in New York if your caught taking any bones out of a forest preserve then they'll give you a ticket. Swizzle

Actually I snuck onto a state game preserve in New York and found it lying in one of the cages they keep wild animals trapped in!!! Really though, it was private property. Actually, it was the largest private owned track of land in lehigh county PA. Even if it was a preserve I would've probally took my chances. I did find these in a county/township park.

How's the digging down in Hereford? I often wanted to scope out some of the older areas down that way, especially around Sassamansville.

You're not far from Pennsburg and Green Lane ... they must have had dumps, back in the day, that should produce some great stuff!
I grew up, and dug, near Quakertown and there is some good stuff down that way!
Let me know of your finds,
Rich

Hey richf, most the old time dumps around here were hit hard in the 60's and 70's by local collectors. Glassworks auction house is about three miles from Hereford in E. Greenville and the owner Jim Hagenbuch said the good dumps were hit already. Although there is a few little ones here and there. As far as finds go a million broken ones that I wish weren't. I still haven't found any of the brew bottles from Green lane intact. Found a Hersh medicine from E. Greenville, Emaus hutch, amber ss coke, and a couple other keepers that I can't think of right now. If you know of any possible digging spots let me know. I know East Greenvilles dump is under the middle school, Red Hills is under a 50 and older community and I believe Herefords was buldozed around in the 70's for Hereford estates. Wich is damm trailer park!!! I'm digging one in Green lane now,on & off again but I ain't got the time to really go at it but I will someday. Theres always little ones though behind houses and farms that are found to poke around in.

Do a search of "European Skull mount" to find out how to preserve and whiten the skull.
