hello everyone me and al dug up a 20s cistern i think?? at least the trash in it was ?? there tearing down lots of old houses here!! and building prefab bs, this one house had a cistern and a outhouse?? dug 6ft and hit water damn!! found an oil lamp and two and a half pair of roller skates!! so we probed and found the cistern near the foundation it was a barrell cistern the lid was concrete so we busted it open with a hammer, its confusing to me, most the stuff was 20s they ran the water pipes here in the 1890s heres the pix any help im new at this!! ive mostly dug dumps lots and lots of ash mad man

Hello madman. After you hit water did you stop digging? By the shape of the hole it looks like you are digging a pretty old one, maybe it will be mid 1800s on the bottom. When I am digging privies and cisterns I find that most of the time all the bottles are just a couple feet below the water level. You have to get a bucket and rope to drain the water. You said that they got piped water in the 1890s so I would guess that the cistern was dug before that and in the 1920s they had no use for it so they filled it in and that’s why you are finding that stuff.

hey bottleman thanks for the info!! next time well drain the water, heres a pix of the house if its still there??what do you think, theres another right next to it but the backlyard is concrete, hey bubas dad yes these bottles r now part of my collection, the mohr bros bottle is pretty popular here, i could send u one next time i find one thanks mike

Hey Madman, that house is a 1910's bungalow. Any chance you can get the porch columns? People like to reuse them on new porches and they sell pretty well.
