if your still on this forum i would be interested in seeing a photo of it and to know what location you found it....marine growth on pottery is good and depending on where you found it..may indicate a possible shipwreck in the area..just rinse off in fresh water and leave the sea creatures on it..it adds alot to the history of the item

I agree with treasure rat that marine deposits can look good on both stone and glass bottles and can add something to an item, but if your bottle (or whatever) has a bit of marine crud on imbossing, a seal etc. you can dip it into dilute hydrochloric acid (to remove it all) or paint it on to the bits you want clean.

The best mix is around 3 parts hydrochloric acid to one part water, wear gloves and eye protection, when you have used your acid put the item in water with a bit of Sodium Carbonate (lectric soda) in it to get rid of all acid traces then soak in clean water.

Hi. Just a quick note. If you use Hydrochloric acid, or any acid or caustic chemical, make sure you have GOOD ventilation.
