Yep, Brains is pretty close. I think they were used from 1920-1940.

just read somthin on insulators.com about the elmur glass company (company that made most star insulators) and if i remember correct they went put of business in 1909? Star is supposed to be a GE logo (main theroy, still un proven) and GE was founded in 1903. There weret any acuall dates but it looks as if alot of different glass companies made star insulators like brookfield and hawly glass works.
Hmmm, i dont think anyone knows for sure.

acually this piece, a CD-162 was made in the early 1900's.

this is a great piece, not rare, but colorful!

heres some info
CD 162
The CD 162, referred to as a “deep groove, double petticoat”, was made for use with insulated drop lines and 6 to 8 gauge secondaries. The STAR CD 162 was manufactured by several of the prominent glass companies in the early 1900s ; Novelty Glass, Sterling and Harloe after it’s move to Hawley, Pa. Excavations at the Elmer “lower works” in 1980 produced fragments of Harloe type STAR CD 162 (12).

hope it helps, got this from insulators.com
