Hi Rhona -

The 1925 Universal Bottlers book has a Goldman & Freiman Bottling Co. listing located at 118 S. Eden St. My guess is that your bottle predates that by 10-15 years. I've never seen a soda with an embossed horseshoe like that - nice bottle!

Rhona,
I have this bottle, I found one as a kid. In the 2nd edition of the Baltimore Bottle Book they have five varients. There is an aqua and clear BIM and clear ABM small crown tops. There are also aqua and clear BIM large crown tops. Your cleaning job looks great. Since you said color I'm thinking yours is BIM and the seams don't go over the top. The Goldman, Freiman Bottling Co has three varients listed, two small crowns and one large crown, all ABM and all clear so Sam is probably right on that yours was the earlier venture. Most are listed as common but still a great bottle to have. New varients are always being discovered and there is probably some out there where the clear could be SCA. They are working on a third edition of the book as I believe the 2nd edition is sold out. Steve

hi warren, sam and steve, thanks for looking, compliments and information. this bottle is abm but the seams don't line up? they stop and start again about 1" over on the shoulder? had a little trouble getting the amythest (sp) to show , the base is very thick, so it's very dark there. hi steve, welcome to the forum. i'm on a list to get a copy of the next edition of the balt. bottle book, can't wait. thanks again, rhona ps, any value?

Rhona thanks, this is a great forum. Yours should be pretty early ABM as the seams don't line up and SCA, that's cool, I have to hunt mine up cuz I vaugely remember it being SCA too. The baltimore book is a great book but they don't know of all clear bottles that may turn SCA. They want people that know of unlisted embossed bottles and stoneware with a Baltimore city or county connection to send info to Doc Andersen at drewbarb@bcpl.net . I wish they would add a section on stoneware jugs.

Hello All,

I am excited to see this string of posting. My great grandfather, Henry Freiman, was a VP at Goldman-Freiman bottling. His uncle, my great great great uncle, Joseph Freiman, was company president.

I can confirm the accounts entered above by previous posters.

My great uncles and grandfather have been search for Goldman-Freiman bottles for years. I have recently taken over the search. Their main brand was called Lord Calvert Beverages. The Freiman's became a part of the company at least prior to 1922, when they were involved in a lawsuit together, Goldman-Freiman Bottling Co v. Sindell. In this suit, they lost $400, which I assume was worth being an appeals case 85 years ago.

Anyway, I am excited to see this posting because it means we are on the right track to find one of the bottles.

Does anybody out there have information on how I can obtain any Goldman-Freiman bottles?

Please let me know.

Sincerely,
David Freiman

Hello and Welcome to the forum!  Bottle collectors in general are very in favor of matching up bottles with relatives.  Very few of us have relatives with a bottle past and with a name like Ciborowski my chances are very slim to nil.  Miles and Burns are also family names so I do have a connection to pursue.  Do you have a copy of the Baltimore bottle book?  The Baltimore show is also coming up and that would be a chance for you to find some bottles you seek.

That sounds great. Thanks guys. You all rock! I found a guy up in Baltimore who has a couple of them. I'll keep you posted once I see them on their quality and whether they are actually Goldman-Freiman.

Thanks again!

hi david,  welcome to the forum. i was checking the balt. bottle book. they list the goldman, freiman bottling co. bottle as common,  they list the bottle embossed with lord calvert beverages on shoulder as uncommon.  you should be able to find some.  do you know how long they where in buissness?  good luck finding them.   rhona

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure when they were in business exactly. I think, though I'm not sure, that it folded/sold out to Suburban Club around 1958 or so, but again, the details are sketchy. I'll have to check with my grandfather for details.

What is the difference in Common versus Uncommon as far as pricing?

hi david,  there is also a acl soda listed,  lord calvert, since1893/ copyrighted 1940/ lord calvert beverages, not sure if this one is related or not.  that's why i was asking about a time period.  good luck, rhona   ps i will keep an eye out for them.  i think i paid $8 for the bottle i have,  if a bottle is uncommon it's would be a little more expensive.

So, of course I wrote down March 8th for the Baltimore Bottle Show....and therefore missed it. I just realized my mistake this morning....not so smart on my part.

Did you all enjoy the show?

Any chance that any of you have come by a bottle of Goldman-Freiman soda? I'm still looking for bottles for my grandfather and his brothers. It was their father and great uncle that made up the Freiman of the bottling company.

I would love it if any of you could help me get the bottles to my grand father.

Thanks,
David

Dear Rhona,

I am writing to see if you have come across any more bottles like this Joseph Goldman bottle.  If you remember, we corresponded a few times early this year.  My great grandfather, Henry, and his uncle Joseph Freiman were business partners with the Joseph Goldman from the bottle you posted on the forum.

My cousin and I have recently met our long lost cousins, the grandchildrent of Joseph Freiman.  They look like us and everything.  This has caused me to ramp up my efforts at finding any and all Goldman-Freiman bottles that may exist so that I can give them to our new cousins as a gift.  If you have seen any around, please let me know.

Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
David Freiman
