Hey all here a shot of the lable of the second congress water bottle I was given .From this lable and the small piece of a lable from the first one I was able to tell a little more about the maker of the ink. First his name was Joseph Fromherz ,Second this is shoe makes ink as is the master ink that I still have .Next I found that the co.is another Cincinnati ink co. By the name of The Continental ink Mfg co.Still find this as very cool as Warren had pointed out that some co. would use any type of bottle to put there product in . Thanks for looken and good luck diggen all

I had a Congress & Empire (bought it on eBay) that had a shoemaker's ink label on it which read " JOSEPH FROMHERZ'S; FIRST PREMIUM; THIS IS THE BEST INK EVER IN THE MARKET FOR BOOT & SHOEMAKERS USE; KEGS OR BARRELS; JOSEPH FROMHERZ; 543 VINE STREET; CINCINNATI, O."

Here's the link to the auction. It looks like your label is the same guy, Joseph Fromherz.

We get the same thing over here in England quite often: bottles originally made for one type of contents, reused for completely different stuff. Whiskey flasks embossed with spirit merchant names but with medicine labels pasted over the top, stoneware beer bottles marked with brewery names, but with ink labels pasted on, etc, etc.

Bill, you were really lucky to be given those. I had to pay $145 for mine. Wish I lived close enough to have found the case of bottles that was on the curb but I probably would have had a heart attack from the shock of such a great find!

Hey Jane
How true I was very lucky .The gent that gave them to me says he allso has two old embossed whiskey bottles he'll give me when he finds them . He said if he'd knowen he would have let me have them all .Plus they were in a case .He still has hand written paper work were they were bought .Says he'll let me have a few sheets from that to. I would say the bottle  you bought is well worth the 145.00 you payed for it though . The  congress water bottle is worth close to 100.00 alone in my opinon maybe more depending when it was made and with the ink lable on it .I would not let mine go for any were nere that amont .Of course inks are what I collect so I would'nt let it go any way. Yours has a very nice lable looks to be a bit diffrent than mine . Could you maybe take a few pic and show it off a bit .So as I could drool on what might have been . HEHE . Thanks agian for your replys and good luck diggen and finding Jane

No pictures to be had as I traded it for two mineral waters I didn't have. I wish I had kept it though.

Wish I did Cindy. I sold my last one to Gerry Strubel years ago. Saw it come up on Jim Hagenbush's auction a while back with the rest of Gerry's stuff.
