Its probley Japan they just got the letters jumbled up like when you see backwards s's . I have a few of these i think they are from the 1920's and are decrotive items. They had paint on them at one time but being underground has worn most of if not all of it off

hi reddielocks, alan23t2 and warren,  thanks for looking and the information.  it appears to have had blk. paint on the pants and red on the hat.  can you use acrylic paint or would that take away from the value?   warren,  any ideal what this might be worth? i am clueless as to where to look for inf.  thanks again for the help, it is appreciated.  rhona

Hey Rhona, I would use enamel paint on porcelin. The value on something would probable be $10 to $15 with the little nicks. They were nick-nacks that were displayed on shelves. I have an aunt who has about 1000 pieces. She got some from my grandma and collected some when she was a girl and she is 86 now.

If you are going to sell it I wouldn't paint it.

Hey Rhona if it just says Japan and not made in Japan it was
imported to USA before 1921, after that it would say
Made in, Except don't think that enforced anymore as I have seen
newer things just maked Japan or whatever, and we know your piece
is old.
