man thanks guys that is a lot of info.i will treat as real .i have showed it to a med guy here in nj and he said it was real as far as he knew ,but was maybe a hair bottle made by clapham. said he saw one about 15 years ago in a collection of med bottles ,it was the same color but was not forsale. so as far as a price he had none. i asked about it being a repo but he assured me the glass was old ,and showed me some tool marks i over looked.this bottle was a great find  if not just for the history i have learned from it. thanks again everyone for the info on this bottle, that web site on family history is real cool again thanks ,matt

I'm no expert but I would say if it's real you could get more and if it's a repro I'd go for it.

ya ,you know the guy emailed me twice and called me once on this bottle in the same day. sounded a little siked up on it ,he had all kinds of detail on it .from him i now think it was i hair or cosmetic bottle made around 1880 -1895.color was in touch with the time and place,he noted the color of inks from the same period and place, and some were that color purple. funny with all the things going on with bottles today you just don't trust your on insite anymorecrasy! anyway i'm still looking for a sale price or old listing on this thanks again ,matt

I havent seen the bottle up close but it sounds authenticly old. Judging from the color it is probably a hair treatment. They were the bottles that had the wild colors like that. English hair bottles in general dont bring as high values as American bottles. Even so, i have seen some British hair bottles bring decent prices in glassworks auctions. If you search back through some older ones they had one sale that had a lot of foriegn hair bottles. As a guess I would say $100 is probably the low end. I dont know the rarety of that particular one but values of $200-500 are not uncommon for clean , undamaged, well colored specimens. You would probably be better off selling on ebay or a glass auction if you dont know the value than selling to an individual for an arbitrary price. You can always auction it with a reserve price.

berry

I would say from those photos that the bottle is definately old/original and it was blown in that color.
Sounds like the 10 emails I sent didnt get throughjust kidding.
Nice bottle, just wish it was American.
