My earliest memories of soda are of the old soda machines back in the early 70s. You put in your dime, and then you opened the long rectangular door on the left, and the bottles were lying on their sides, so you just pulled out the one you wanted, usually a coke, 7-Up, Fanta, or maybe an A&W root beer. I also used to love our weekly trip to the local Pop Shoppe with my Dad when I was a kid, we'd load up 2 or 4 cases, and as a kid, it seemed like there were billions of flavors to choose from. Anyone remember the Pop Shoppe??

Hey TK, I remember those drink coolers.  One was located outside a service station in town.  Some of the kids would go by at night with a bottle opener and cups.  Pop off the caps and fill up the cups and empty that first row that was behind the rectangular door.   They finally moved the box inside.

I thought me and my friends were the only ones to think of using a bottle opener and a cup to get free drinks from those machines!  There was one in the next town over, about 20 miles. We would ride our bikes all the way out there to get some free Soda.  And I remember that smell of the caps.  My Uncle used to be able to pull the cork liner out in one piece, then put the cap on the outside of our shirt and push the cork in from the inside.  My cousins and I would wear them as badges when we played Cowboys and Indians or Cops and Robbers. Those were the days.

Another one of those bands? Have you ever heard of Crosby-STILLS-and Nash and sometimes Neil Young. Classic Radio sucks Spencer their playlist is shorter than... well it's purtty short. Hang w/ me and I'll introduce you to music of all types. My son who is majoring in music { What kind of job he gets is beyond me} actually thanked me the other day for the diversity of music he listened too growing up.He says it actually helps him in class and impresses his profs..Did you hear that thanked me,but still can't get him to help me. Next time you hear from me it'll be in regards of bottles.

yeah i know about that classic radio, i listen to it, but where i get my playlist is from what i was brought up around, i like it all, not just the rock, or the country, i like a little mo-town, not much mind you but some, and the love songs too. who can resist marvin gaye? in my opinion barry white is overrated. what do you think?

Hey Spence,

We in the radio business call the format you described as AOR, or All Over the Road.

Back when you could find an independent radio station in a little town, you would find an eclectic mix of music (sort of like life, eh?) but since the changing of the FCC regs on group ownershiop, most stations are programmed by the mother ship and sent down the line to the other stations. One program director, one music director and I won't even go into what it did to news. The only job description in abundance: Sales. Guess what is more important, sales or music!
Most classic rock stations have a play list of between 500 and 600 songs, played over and over and over and over and over again, ad nauseum.

How you doing anyway? I see you finally beat me in posts.

Joel
