unlesss they are burried in a bottle in a dump I don't think I'll be finding them

30 years ago I was always picking up beer cans from 1940's 1950's dumps.  I go to those same dumps now, nothing is readable anymore, completely rusted out.  My best find was a beer can "inside" of a coffee can, I shook it out and a Clipper Pale beer can fell out.  Had a nice picture of a clipper air plane on the front.  Had its' share of rust but was pretty decent, and there was a small dent on one side.  7 or 8 years ago I sold it on eBay and got nearly 400 dollars for it.  It created quite a stir when I listed it.  One sold in '02 for over 19,000 but it was in a lot better shape then mine.  Here is the pic of the one that sold for more than 19,000, I wish I sold mine "after" this one, I would have gotten a lot more than 400 for it I think.

Ron, Yes I'd be Interested to see what you have. Wilkie, That clipper is common in dumper offgrade condition but impossible to find nice indoor or mint like the one that got $19k on ebay. That one on ebay at that time was nicest one know. I got a rough dumper now that cost me $5.00. Wally Gilbert, A Antique dealer in Escondido California near San Diego made a find of quite a few of those Clippers (possibly hundreds) in the 70's found under a Bars Dance floor. They were nice but kinda rough grade 2. I bought one from him for $200. That Acme you posted has 4 variations & books for $10-$15. Common can but well worth the $2 bucks. LC, That Pulaski is a 1970's reproduction cone made from Automotive additive can with a flat bottom. Never contained Beer & just a novelty can. Price on that is $5.00. BUT, I've seen 2 newbies on ebay get on a bidding war thinking it's real & buy for $50+ unfortunately. Ron, Post Pics. LEON.

Thanks Leon , never thought about the bottom of it , it is definitely flat , and feels like it is quite thin . I guess there is nothing sacred anymore when it comes to antiquity .

LC, If you look at your other original rusty cones you'll notice they all have curved concaved bottoms. 99% of all beer cans have concaved curved bottom. The 1% are the late 1935-early 36 inverted ribbed low profile cans, a few American can co. cones & some early j-spout cones. all from the 1930's. LEON.

All the other cone tops I have are do have indented bottoms Leon , but I never gave a thought about the Pulaski was a repop because of a flat bottom . Who said old dogs can't learn new tricks . thanks again , Lou

How do you get cans out of dumps?  Wouldn't they be all rusty and corroded?  Those look very nice for being dug.  I love Faygo, it's delicious.

Yes, Usually they are rusty or dented, I can fix rusty dented cans. These Faygo's were a little rusty but a Soak in Acid helped clean them up. LEON.

Leon,
I have a definite dump for you. I'm headed to Kansas, Missouri and perhaps two other states next week, to dig. Won't be back until about June 14th, so I will take you to the spot then. If you can call me before then, I'll give you directions.
Bill
