Terry here's the easiest way to get an accurate appraisal of a bottle I know of. Put it on Ebay with a high reserve, say $500 and start the bidding at .99cents. Then just sit back and see how high it goes. The bitters category is closely watched by high end buyers and you'll get as close a value there as anywhere.

good one lobey, lets see ebays fees plus someone might buy my bottlle i want to keep, just to see how much its worth. hmmmmm? Wish it would sell for 500 i would sell it, lol. wonder how much a 500 reserve would cost, in those ridiculous fees. that would be a cheap appraisal huh?
Thanks man, Terry

It's a dead right appraisal too. Age and variations in the wording on the label don't mean squat when the bottle in question is a labeled amber Hostetter's; there are just too many of them out there. Many of them are from the 1870s and 80s too. I agree with Matt and Lobey, $40-50.

EBAY ITEM ON SALE NOW!
Item number: 260169781893
Well, Here is one newer than mine and is selling way more than the 40 dollars as said to it's worth. Its a D. HERBERT HOSTETTER'S mine is an HOSTETTER and SMITH. One of the first ones made guys. GEORGE SMITH helped DAVID HOSTETTER open this comapny in 1855 after His Father DR. J. HOSTETTER gave the company to his son. With the capitol of his friend GEORGE, The comany was started and called HOSTETTER and SMITH. (mine!)GEORGE died in 1884 and company was changed to; HOSTETTER AND COMPANY, When David died, 1886, His son, D. HERBERT took it over and company became  THE HOSTETTER CO. Which is the one sellin for 49 dollars now, just a plain ol amber one, with a ok label, but not near as old as mine. my label is so crusty you cannot touch it. Crude embossing on mine VERY DARK AMBER, just can't see in pics. Hate to ride a dead dog, but, they may sell low at bottle shows, but BARNUM said it best there is a.......born every day. ebay sells! lol!

Here is a link to a cobalt blue medicine bottle with the same two dots on the bottom, the bottle says I.G.CO. Is this an Ihmsen Glass Co. Marking, and if so, was this HOSTETTERS Made by Ihmsen?
ANYONE>?

Not in that case. That bottle is embossed on the side panel and must be the company for the contents. It's also ABM and later.

Bama I know your excited and all but that bottle on ebay (sold for 66 I believe) is just a better bottle than yourn. The base sold that bottle. The fact that your label is ready to turn to dust is not a high selling point. And a label that dry is only going to get worse. A Hos is a Hos of course of course
Lobey.

oh yeah the cobalt bottle is embossed I.C.CO.   I.G.CO. is the Illinois Glass Co.  and the dots are more than likely vent holes
