Here are a couple things I consider treasures of the house...

A Pennsylvania-German decorated stove plate as a fireback in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Cast by John Potts in 1751.

An 18th century sink caved out of a piece of sandstone. I dug this up outside near the corner of the house. It weighs about 250 pounds so I dont consider it portable.

Big G  OMG That sink is fantastic!  The stove plate is a treasure you're right.  how nice you are able to use it in a fire place.  ya know you could sell that sink real quick.

The stove plate was built into the firplace when they house was constructed. It came from a five plate stove that was probably dismantled before my house was built (they had construction recycling even back then )

Here is some cool picts of other stove plates...

What is the size of the trough and what do you use it for, Matt?

I really like those.  There's a guy located about an hour or two east of Cincinnati on highway 32 who sells them.  Two problems - they cost a lot and they weight a ton.

Very nice

I just put kindling for the fire in it. Its about 2'x2'.  I have seen some late 19th century ones around that are apparently from somewhere in Europe but the work is much more crude. I have only seen a few early American ones.

Nice sink Matt. Ya know, there was something similar in one of the out-buildings on my property.  It was a small brick fireplace with a large copper sink like object over the fire, encased in brick. Of course that building was pretty much gone when we bought the place but I salvaged that. It is pretty black inside, like either they cooked in it or it held ashes?? I don't know what it is lol  I wonder if it will ever come off. The outside is pretty clean though.

To make your basement as dry as possible, put down two layers of minimum 6mil poly on the soil before you lay your pavers.  To level the pavers, use a we bit of sand, just a half or 3/4 inch on top of the poly, this will also prevent the pavers from cutting the poly.  About 75% of the humidity in your basement comes up from the floor.  I did this in my basement, and do not even need a dehumidifier.
