Gives the hobby a bad name.  Greed is a terrible thing.

I don't dig, I dive for my treasure so there are never any holes for me to fill.

Right now it is tumbling and cleaning season.

I dig vacants all the time.  They might not get the royal treatment that nice upkept lawns get in occupied houses, but they get filled and recovered.  If there's nothing there but burnt spoons, dog crap and waist high weeds, I'm not putting Scott's down after I fill it, but we only leave our crackhead traps open for a few hours, and they all get filled.  Just lazy, pure and simple.

Those of you who are dropping names without knowledge are being very irresponsible and inflamatory.  I dig in Wilmington and know Matt.  He isn't the culprit.  Bringing personal biases and jealousies into the forum is unnecessary.  I agree that leaving holes open is extremely dangerous and bad for the hobby.  I have been invovled in one dig in Wilmington that left a hole open and that was due to us trying to de-escalate a confrontation with an unstable neighborhood person.  We have attempted to return to fill, but the same person has confronted us. We did cover the hole with plywood to increase the safety. Diggers who are lazy, due to greed, need to be addressed.

sorry madpaddla that picture is just a sink hole from an old mine shaft i whas just trying to make light of the situation over there .i think sometimes people seem to go over board with stuff like this.the city has no idea who is leaving holes open unless there catching them red handed .it could of been bums looking for cans as far as they know and they shouldnt be taking it out on all of the diggers in that area.

I say "Dig and let Dig" and don't make me break my foot off in your a$$ for leaving a hole open!!!!!

ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT....I DID IT..... You got me. I jumped on my bicyle and came up there and did it. Now what was it I did.

If you know who then call the law. Simple.

Had a guy here locally who served prison time for digging holes and not filling them in.

Of course he was a grave digger.

Lighten up folks, life is too short.

Mr. Ford,
After reading the posted email a group of collectors from this area spent several hours filling holes around Wilmington.
Thank you very much.

Thanks to all who helped resolve this situation

Mr Ford, Im glad you have shown concern but there was no need for you to post this on a public forum. Most of the people on here dont even know where Wilmington Delaware is. There was more to the story and you shouldnt allow our hobby to be frowned upon.

I dont contribute much to this forum, and it is because of people like you.

Good Day.

is best to watch what you say commrad.  In the peoples workers paradise all citizens will be given equal amounts of time per week to dig bottles.  All citizens will dig only the same bottles as other citizens.  The people will not be stopped!  We shall be supreme, American pigs.

If there's one thing that ruins the digging hobby for those who do it right, it's the "dig & dash" bone heads that do this. I can't tell you how many times I've been denied a permission only because some idiot dug a hole and didn't properly fill it. If your not filling then no doubt your likey trespassing too. Not only is that illegal but it also creates a hazzard in which if someone gets hurt then guess who's labial for damages? I've spent hours filling other peoples holes in my digging areas and re-filling some too after they've been half ass filled and sank. It's pure greed, disrespect and bone head mentality that drive these individuals. There's some Northern California diggers who will dig in this style. They should know that if their  caught not properly filling or trespassing in a certain persons digging areas, they will be reported to the  property owner and police.

Mr. Lyddy, ( asdfgh )

If its safe enough to dig holes in an area - its safe enough to fill them in. Stop your whining. Thoughtless diggers who trespass and dont fill in their holes are endangering the public and giving our hobby a bad name, not me.

just seems like a lot of whining to me where i grew up the woods were littered with hundreds of mine shafts that are 100 to 300 feet deep and as a kid i managed never to fall in one . maybe you city slickers are different and have a hard time watching where your going
