i was out using my sanborn maps looking around a 1800's town and did find 4 or 5 emply lots that used to have old homes on them, 2 of the lots had depressions near the back lot line. i hope to check them out more as soon as the ground is not frozen. also i saw a wooded area behind a large empty lot and went in the woods to check it out, i think i found my first bottle dump. there was a drop-off of about 20 feet, and all along this slop is all kinds of glass and bottles mostly broken. the area is at least 1000 feet long that has broken glass all covered by leaves. then there is another large area further down that has big peices of cement down the drop-off and just a little glass. i did find 4 bottles just looking around. one was brown quart bottle with "federal law forbids sale or re-use of this bottle"" with a cork type top. another was a clear pint bottle with the same federal warning with small word of script "ball" on the bottom. does the numbers on the bottom of these bottles mean anything like the year or some thing? the other 2 were smaller with just numbers on the bottom. can't wait to get back there! how deep could these bottle layers go? could the age of bottles get older once i start digging? what years did they put that federal warning in the bottles?
