Pat, you're like me, if I go to all the trouble to put down drop cloths, tape, etc. I'll loose the feeling.  Not too bad to clean up, just don't wait too long.

I have a friend I have watched use these sponges wet. He just lightly and quickly  goes over the mud and manages to do a pretty good job of removing the high spots as well as come up with a pretty decent finish. I myself have no luck with them. I'll stick with the sanding. as much as I hate the dust. I did a complete tearout in our bathroom putting up all new drywall, as well as having to replace the entire floor. tt turned out pretty good, but like Pat is experiencing, a real mess before I was finished.  I also tiled the shower and tub walls, I had never tried doing tile before, seemed like it took forever to lay on those four inch tiles, it came out pretty good as well thankfully.

I have never tried doing any stone work, look like you did a good job on it Pat. That a nice chess table too, like the way you designed the pedestle.

Hey all
Have to say I do alot of sheetrock and I use 3 coats and a damp sponge dont want the dust . The sponge is not a sanding sponge but a masons hard sponge with small tight holes .Allso I like the new tape with the holes in it dont have to worrie with bubbles from pressing with the knife to hard .The harder the drywall mud the smother the finish will be on your last coat .I can sofen mud up to a  year old  or so with a damp sponge and move it around to create a smooth finish as long as it has'nt be painted  .Try it its pretty easy and no dust .Of course lobeys right if your gona sand use one of the new sanders with a shop vac attached. They do work well to I just like keepen all the money I can in my pocket.I worked in fla. for many years to doing masonary work of all kind ,stone block' stucco, concrete of all kinds  and your stone work is really nice looking OsiaBoyce .Just trying to help

Well, the only thing I can add to this is that Pat, you and the Mrs. have the same comforter and ruffle on your bed that I have.  Great minds think (uh, or decorate) alike, huh?

That stonework is pretty awesome there Patrick. I come from a long line of stone masons and assorted hoodlums. I took after the tradesmen for the most part. I'd give you more tips but I think you've had enough with the tips already. Casing that window's gonna be a pain. Just did a bedroom over here and had the same problem.
You chess table is the real deal. 22 1/2 degrees angles on the pedestal if I remember corectly. Good stuff! Working on a new comp desk here. Drawing up the plans now. Should be done by new years.....

Look ma no seams...
Like I said, just finished a bedroom. Made the sills out of some scrap poplar i had laying around. Good casework makes any craphole look decent. Looking at some nice cloth pleated blinds and I can check this off the punch list.

pretty sure I had pants on when i took the pics I really hate this monitor. can't see crap from some angles and i hate getting up anf pressing my damn nose to the screen..

Yes Star I'm a legend in my own mind. I went to two curtain places befor settling on these damned blinds. They're juet (spell check at your own lesiure) and kind of smell like sail canvas. because of the size of the windows I had no luck finding a freaking curtains short enough to fit. 58" where the shortest i could find and I'm not really into paying for custom made jobs. I cut a huge amount of material of the blinds. Taking the things apart and putting them back together was a nightmare.

I have used a sponge.Dip in a bucket of water and wring it out so it is damp, not soaking wet. the trouble is the sponge has to be cleaned out so much is a waste of time unless it is a small space. With a sponge it is easy to over do it.IT is nice though not to have to breath in the dust[I hate a dust mask] and not to have to cover up everything.I painted for 20 years and never liked sanding, but did pleaty of it!

Simple solution boys, now listen. Three words....Vacuum Pole Sander. If your a contractor buy one. If you're just doing a room in your house 40-45 dollars + paper will rent you one for the day. Rent it on Saturday and they usually let you keep it til monday morning. It's the 21st century fellas
