DOESN'T look pontiled or iron pontiled as far as I can tell. A very unique bottle for sure! PLEASE KEEP US UP DATED ON WHAT YOU LEARN ABOUT IT! I wouldn't do it ,but I think it would look much prettier with out the leather or whatever it is on it! THANKS FOR SHARING A ODD BOTTLE,MY CURIOSITY IS RUNNING HIGH!

i have read about animal hide(vellum or parchment) and found that it wasnt used very much after 15th century; due to the unusual working properties of vellum and paper becoming much cheaper to manufacture.  since the 15th century vellum was used mainly for government or political documents and diploma's.  so i dont think i'll be removing the vellum any time soon glass man.  this is a very unusual case for a whisky bottle label.  the english word whiskey that is on the bottle's vellum label suggests most likely that its of english origin.  the style or font type suggests that it is written in early modern english which began during the english renaissance from the 16th century -17th century.  so the label cannot be ancient.  but that leaves 1 to still wonder how old the bottle itself could be. im in such a dilema here with very little input.  i guess im gonna have some1 radiocarbon date a piece of the vellum label.  at least i would then have hard facts about this unusual bottle.  at least i found it impossible to predate the 16th century i guess.

I'll see if i can get some for you,the labels were done here bottles came from italy.I had a bunch shape of snakes 4 ft tall and 1 green one like yours, they produced some wild wine and liquer bottles. Vellum is still used toady for alot of different graphic used, prints ect. That came from the dictionary.

i guess u couldnt find any pictures that resemble it; since it has been months; since u said u'd post pic's; so until i spend some money for carbon dating tests for the label; i guess we wont reallly know how old it is.

The bottle isn't very old.Definately not ancient. It looks like a million other modern fantasy bottles that can be found in thrift stores,etc..I would love to sugercoat it for you, but it has decorative value, little else. Save your money on the carbon dating.

Spending $100 for a C14 test to test a $10 bottle doesnt seem like a good use of resources. Plus the accuracy is probably only about +/-40YBP so you may be in the noise.
Save your money to buy bottles if you want to be a collector.

Yep straight outta the 60s 19 that is. Now if ya wanna see some thing really old it's this glass powder horn from the Revolutionary War. Belonged to some guy named Dickel from Tennessee. Later it looks like some right handed though minus a thumb applied some whiskey brand name lable on it. Also it's wrapped in genuine imatation leather hand stiched by a machine, but not a real big one it was  a long time ago. What I'd really like to see is the 12k yo mace. I was unaware there was a site in North America older than the Topper site in Allendale which is 12k BCE. One bottle and a web site and youre an expert amazing. Ya read medical books?

The additional seams allover this bottle indicate a more sophisticated process than the Romans were ever capable of. It does appear to be BIM and three-piece mold, which is still in use today for decorative decanters, vases,  & art glass objects. The French used this method in a lot of decorative decanters, many of which were figurals and made during the Victorian Era, but this decanter is most likely Italian, or possibly Spanish, as both countries frequently used leather as "decoration" on bottles, decanters, et al......Circa 1950 - 1980. The "well-worn"  label may well have been added to give the decanter a more vintage aged appearence. The English, Irish, & Scottish are known to have used the WHISKY spelling ,(vs the U.S. -  Whiskey), perhaps indicating the label was applied in one of those countries by the Importer and, some time after the Fall of Rome.
