ORIGINAL: appliedlips I enjoy this forum and want it to continue to be the best place on the net to talk BOTTLES!!!!!!!!!!!! That's great; however, after reading the five millionth person ask what the "10, 2, 4" on Dr. Pepper Bottles means, bottle posts tend to get repetitive. Sometimes the posts are still interesting; however, I personally am a multi-collecting, multi-interest person, who's sole existance is isn't the aqusition of bottles. Every once in a while you like to discuss something that isn't bottles, if that drives off those who have a thin skin, who are quite content with answering how much a hobbleskirt Coke from timbucktoo, RI is worth, what can you do. One wonders just how hard they are working to be offended, because for the most part the off topic posts show up in one thread in collectors chat, if you don't want to read it then stay in the Digging and finding section, or one of the other areas where this type of off topic discussion normally doesn't happen. Fighting over this Sanborn Map situation is just stupid, and in the wrong place; however, it does impact some peoples collecting so it has a place on the site. Just not in the little kid pissing contest form that it has taken. A good example of a forum that works well, is the Star Wars collecting forum I frequient, it is about Star Wars collecting mainly; however, has seen the need to allow their members to discuss other topics in different areas, everything from movies, television, electronics, even other action figure collecting. Heck I have even posted a few bottles on there and no one sniveled and cried about it. Their rule is no politics or religion, everything else is fair game in the proper area. You don't want to read about the latest Marvel figures then stay out of the Marvel figure topic post. If they had a ONLY TALK STAR WARS!!!! attitude then things would get quite boring, because there isn't always new news about new product coming out; however, being a currently produced product helps keep the discussion new to a certain degree. Bottles don't have this luxury, aside from the latest aqusition of one of the members, which we can look at but doesn't effect us on a personal level that often which leads to the "nice find" or "great bunch of bottles" comments which aren't a discussion but just a pat on the back for someone elses good luck, there just isn't that much new on the market. Rarely does the "discussion" around here grow beyond that, so is it any real surprise that some people want to discuss other things?
