Privys are usually located on a back corner of the property line...there may be a huge shade tree still nearby....If there was a shed or other outbuilding in the corner, the privy was often beside it and to the rear.
Not very often was a privy beside the house along the property line.

We have a big backyard and i started to dig in the back corner and i dug up a well from the 1950's that my grandpa built there. I don't think a privy is there. If you look at the pictures of my backyard could you tell me any other place that i could try digging at in the yard?

ok guys here it is! your privy is in that back yard somewhere!! you have to find it! using a probe! the cistern is under the addition! yes addition! how old is the house!! yes the cistern may be located in the basement ive seen these in 1900s houses!! but most of them were located directly behind the house! look for depressions in the ground or dips in the yard!for your privy! there may be more than one! that yard is big and will be a challenge!! stand in the back of the house in the middle and think where is that sucker probe probe probe mike
