The only thing I can say is how do we stop voting for the same crooks when the choices we are given are all crooks? I can't think of any way short of overthrowing the current government and starting from scratch to solve that problem. And then people inherently want to take care of themselves first and they worry about the good of others second. So we would end up trading one corrupt government for another. Would you as a holder of a political office vote for a law that would negatively affect you or your family? I'm sorry but Democracy failed in ancient Rome and its destine to fail here also.

Also if you look at the people that set up our form of government. They were all wealthy and who did they give the right to vote to? Who else but the Wealthy Landowners. People who in most respects were highly educated for their day and didn't want the government controlling much of their lives. Because they were one thing most people are not today they were self- sufficient.

We failed to listen to Eisenhower's warning and have allowed large corporate interests to buy political offices. We as a consumer based society have moved away from producing goods to selling services mostly medical, legal, and financial. We have gotten so far from the roots of this country and how the government worked in those much simpler times. That form of Democracy will never work for our current society without drastic changes to our socio-economic philosopy. And the "American" way of life. This is something I don't see happening. We have become lethargic as a nation and prefer to place blame on someone or something else rather then stand up and do something about it. When in reality its everyone fault.

Really cant argue with that, Very well put. But what your solution is.....is to overthrow the goverment.....careful with that kind of talk.....might have someone knocking on your door in the middle of the night....LOL. The only way the goverment will start from scratch is if there are some type of clataclismic event....weather it was economic or a terrorist attck. Either or I think that the powers at large want a one world goverment and given what we owe other countries I wouldnt doubt thats where we are headed. Hopefully when I am long gone. What I do agree with is...these politicians want things to stay as is.

As far as corporate intrest in politics go....that cat is out of the bag. Its all about money. Reality is....these people dont get into politics to serve the people in a low paying civil service job....No....they do it to become wealthy.

Chris your theory is correct.....in reality what else can we do?

Balto Digger,
It is hard to say what a solution might be. The politicians will be the first ones to say Jobs are our number one priority. Really and what do they create, what product do they produce. Who really creates a job??? Henry Ford perhaps Bill Gates maybe?? I have been in business for twenty years Iwas not put in business by the govt. I never took a dime from anyone, I went without alot and still do. I created at current count 25 jobs. I just worked a 17 hour day yesterday because I needed to. In all my years my number one complaint is a ever intruding govt local to federal. I truly can wallpaper a wall with all the crap they keep making me abide  by.  My motivation is very low I do not seem to see the fruits of my labor. The govt. stands ready locally and federally if I sell  my business to tax that sale heavily because they can and will even though I never took a dime from them.
The solution would be to give the motivation back to people to put in 17 hour days and keep more of what they make for the risk that they take in the first place. Stop giving away the store to those that work for the govt. Reward coming in underbudget rather then spend it all or else we dont get it next year mentality. Dont pay toll takers more than 45,000. a year. I really could go on......and on. The solution I am afraid will be very painful but the current path is unsustainabe for a town a city and a country and the proof is all around us.

Well I have rambled long enough but I will leave with a great quote by Margaret Thatcher and it is
" The problem with Socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other peoples money"   that is certainly something to think about. Now go out there and start a business, brainstorm with freinds just dont wait for a politician to do it for you cause its never going to happen.

Here in Ohio, things aren't any better.  Yesterday I got the notice to stay home til March 1st, because of "lack of work", and that's only if things pick up.  Last year about this time, I got cut back to a 4 day work week, which really hurt financially.  It leads me to believe that the only people guaranteed a permanent job in this country are politicians, trash collectors, and morticians.  At least I have something in common with two of them..................

I never thought about being a mortician, but good point.  That job will always be around.
