Very unusual spot you have there. Got to have more bottles somewhere around that site. Good to see the gang back in action!

That wasn't Tom's butt.  He has a butt double for his photos.

Yesterday my twin bro and I went for a ride, just for something to do on our b-day...I had told him where we were digging and he knew of an ancient cemetery in the woods nearby, We decided to go see it, and in the process ended up behind the old farm that Penn Digger and I had tried to check out Sunday while me, him and Fred were digging the shoemakers dump..The brambles and bear brush were so thick that Tom and I turned back Sunday, and decided to rejoin where Fred stayed to dig....By taking the steep hillside in the pines my brother and I were able to get to this neat old place...The maple trees are at least Civil war era, and were planted in a row along a small canal the farmers had dug to divert the spring.....By the girth of these trees and the dates on the tombstones, I can safely say this farm is way old for our area, 1830's-1840's perhaps.Murphy's law of digging said I wouldn't have my digging tools, My bro isn't into bottles and we had gone there to see the grave yard. He did have a camera and forwarded me a couple of pics, so I decided to share a couple here.

This maple was big enough to have a game trail passing through it.

To use the local vernacular, I think I "seen" that bear in my wildflower bed.  Something with a rather large backside sat in it.  Maybe it's just a crop circle or maybe it "ain't".   Last week, a bear "come up" the road and got into some neighbor's trash.  He "don't" come back "der" no more.

Hey Joe, I'll let you borrow my Jumbo Peanut Butter jar. Maybe you'll see bigger bears or an elephant looking for peanuts. Swiz

This would have been a good one to have the camera along on, but my bad,...I forgot to bring it. We'll be going back, so next time for sure. Me, Fred, and Tom decided to go check out the farm from the last pics above....The area where the glass and crockery were was behind a rectangular area outlined with large flat stones, the area was about 18' x 30' and looked just like a typical barn foundation...and not a cellar hole....On the 1923 map which is the oldest we have access to, there is only one "dot" there, We don't know if the barn was gone by then,or if the house was built on this odd foundation, We proceeded to dig, and were finding a weird mix of household items, fragments of bottles, canning jar parts, and a lot of iron artifacts, ax heads, stove parts, a logging chain with rings and hooks that was probably still useable, horseshoes, but also goblets, broken stemware and plates etc.....One broken goblet looked almost ceremonial, with alternating ruby red, and clear panels, with a tapered body, six sides and short stem,...I dug all but one piece of it, and meant to grab it for pics but forgot. While Fred and I dug, Tom went walkabout, and was gone for over an hour,...since this spot is bear laden, after awhile Fred and I were joking around, but hoping Tom was alright. He eventually returned w/ a small clear med, and a story of an area along a steep bank with a rockpile, square stone lined privy, and old lily plants gone wild, spread around this site with fragments on top, and mixed in the stones...Great,...lets go check it out! We packed up and followed Tom through the woods for quite a ways,....It was just as he described it, with the obvious privy foundation backed up to the bank there in the rocks and shade...We searched around and decided they dumped their trash back near the privy in amongst the rocks,...good,...and bad, because we all know how well the two mix! A few pics to follow of the sort of stuff in this latest homestead dump.
