I can't wait to see where this goes on E-bay!!! Got a question for everyone though...

Do you think the bottles in general lose some of their value if bidders know what you paid for it? I don't know... I do know that some of the local collectors know that I find some nice stuff underwater and when they are interested in a piece, a couple have told me , "Hey Wayne, it didn't cost you anything." and they make an offer of about half of what the bottle is truly worth. Taking advantage of the new, fat guy...

That happened a lot when I was new to the hobby and the selling end, but I stick to my guns now! I explain the dangers, the costs of euipment, air, boat fuel and so on...
I bought a lot of books, learned as much as I could, hooked up with some knowledgeable
collectors, dealers and got into a habbit of not "jumping" at the first offer. I learned who I could trust and who I couldn't. Then, I took their offer and doubled it...

Funny, I don't hear a lot from these guys anymore... oh well.

Wayne

I think it does bother some dealers and collectors knowing what you pay for items. But there some people (very few) who are just happy having a chance at an item that they really want, regardless of what the other person paid for it.The one good thing about ebay is that for some collectors who have been lookin for certain key items to fill thier collection, have a better than average chance to find these items and items they did not know existed through this venue.

There are those who will try to beat you out of a bottle because the want to buy low and sell high.

If its a bottle I want in my collection and wont normally find in my area or have a chance to ever dig one up, I don't mind paying full price for it. I like a good deal as much as the next guy But some time if you want it you just have to pay.

Now my wife is a different story. If she can't dig it she don't want it, usually. Even she has her weak moments.

The you didn't pay anything for it deal just does not cut it with me. It doesn't matter how much or how little if any thing at all the seller payed or wheather you know how much the seller paid if you want the bottle. Someone will pay the price.

A bottle is only worth wat someone is willing to pay for it.

Looks like you made a good buy!!! I see that it's already up over 150.00 on ebay with six days left to bid!!! Personally I would have kept it and sat on it for a while... Chris Capley

If i was wealthy i would not sell any bottle i purchase,But when money is tight you have a tendancy to sell things you would not normally sell.I will always have pictures of the nice bottles i have sold in the past.

I have to agree with you Matt on the sell what dosen't interest you and buy what you like with the money. And for people that think because you dug a bottle you got it for free. I like to tell them. Yeah your right but sence there free why don't you go dig one yourself. Theres no sence in paying for it if you can dig one. This usually makes them a bit mad lol. I look at all the times i go out digging and come home with junk just to bring something home. Theres no way i'm going to sell a good bottle for chump change.

Chris

Amen Chris! If you took the amount of time and money spent looking for and digging bottles what do think we make per hour ? Close to minimum wage ? If we were finding bottles everyday and rare ones at that none of us would ever work!
