HMMM. Interesting lot of bottles, and some nice pics. Your dump appears to be of late '90s and Turn vintage, with a few "throw backs". Occasionally, we will dig earlier glass in a later pit, too. This is an indicator that some old, outdated bottles were found in the residence and tossed with that day's trash. If it was a true "pontil dump" most of the glass will be of that vintage, with no post 1870s bottles.

Finding any dump is a rarity these days, especially around here. I don't know about Penna, though. You guys have a lot of older stuff than we do out here. CA history only goes back to the late 1840s and the Gold Rush. That's when our population boom took place. Prior to that it was a mighty empty place. The local native peoples had it made. Too bad the gold seekers slaughtered them out of ignorance. That's another story, though.

And what were you REALLY smoking in the pipe?

I love the layers, great job finding that one.

More than a few PA guys missed that one over the years. I got my start in Fogelsville, right outside Allentown back in 1983 when I was 10. Wish I still lived down there, you guys have some nice bottles to be found.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! deepwoods I just put that center bottle on ebay it says "HUILE D'OLIVE JAUREICHE & CARSTAIRS SURFINE CLARIFIEE" the link is "click here." - Insulators rule, I'll get a better pic of that insulator up later, alot of people want it! I called this a pontil dump because the bottom layer was all pontil era bottles but the layers date all the way up to the 1940's! The excavating there is not finished yet.

I would go to:

http://www.insulators.com/

on that amber threadless...I suspect you have something there. Rare broken insulators still bring money. I sold a broken thredless on Ebay for 80 bucks.

Yes! It's time to bring back a 10 month old thread! For some reason I could never log back into SEEKER of TREASURE. I requested a new password many times and it never worked . Anyway I went back to this dump a week ago and dug it. It's a single home dump. It was 95% dug by me and matt when I went but I found this very good cluster of bottles still in there. I found no more pontils but there still may be some in there. I did find a strange clay pipe with LEGS! I have never seen one of these with legs and I'm in love with it! Anyone know why it was made like that?

Its pretty obvious why they made it that way , I'm just wondering why no one else thought of it. That was a great idea. Built in pipe stand.
