Hey Dale,

Thanks for the dusted off preview. Is the strange guy American, Frederick Stearns & Co., Detroit?

Probably the treasure of the dig ~ a sealed Dutch Case Gin "A C Nolet" of Schiedam ~ held by a tired but very happy digger!

@ Surfaceone ~ thanks for the info on Stearns, fascinating. I can well remember Stearns Pine Tar & Honey !

@ Tony ~ not sure which one you mean , but see photo.

@ Glenn ~ 11 altogether, 3 10oz & 8 6 oz - though one of the latter is a bit twisted. Also one Belfast (round bottom) one large Hamilton & one small internal screw Spa Water. And 1 large & 3 small blob top sodas (sometimes called flat-bottomed Hamiltons.)

Here is some of the stoneware/ceramic stuff , some of the other bits are still unwashed:
the ginger beer (on the left) is incised & comes from Croyden , UK.

Hi Dale,

Well done on some great finds and in one foul swoop you have found more codds than I have in total in the last 20 years.

Looking great already.  What is that little ink in the last picture?  It look like it has pen rests.  Is it a sheared lip?  Nice stuff!!  I bet you're tickled.

I believe that Stearns & Co bottle is actually considered a medicine? I think it contained Cod Liver Oil or something of that sort. Dug one identical to it years ago except that it's only about 3-4 inches tall (sample size). Thought it was a sample whiskey when I dug it! LOL

Hi, Chris; yes pretty sure it was a medicine ~ as I said I remember taking Stearns Pine Tar & Honey, which was a throat or cough medicine.

@ Lauren ~ the little green bottle is a "boat" ink - so called because the neck looked like a little funnel and the dips on each side were pen rests. It has a rough "burst" lip - the cork dug into this & was covered with a blob of wax. The most common were aqua, then green, light blue, cobalt blue & the rarest were amber brown. I have only handled about 5 amber boat inks in 30 yrs of digging !
