Guys,

Unfortunate for me, my digging buddy made it out by himself Friday and dug what has got to be a blue whale of a bottle. Has anyone seen or heard of this one, it is iron pontiled, forest green in color, and embossed on three sides with:
"FOREST PINE / TAR CORDIAL"
"THE GREAT CURE FOR / CONSUMPTION,BRONCHITIS & c"  "MANDERSON & CO /PROPRIETORS-PHILADA"
Anyone want to venture a guess to value? I am thinking it will be making it's way to an auction house in the near future.

Thanks,

Dave

I'd guess a couple of thousand for value, maybe more.

That's a super rare cure. Dont think I've seen one ever sell.
Its listed in Agee's cure books. Holst lists it at $3000-4000. A higher price wouldnt surprise me.

Your buddy owes you the next 100 first picks I think.

That has got to be one of the best looking bottles that I have ever seen in my life. I would love to dig something that beautiful, rare or not. Really awesome find. Thank you very much for sharing. I only regret that I'm not in a finacial postion to make an offer. Jason

I have never heard of it, or seen another. Looks like a competitor of Wisharts! Wonderful bottle. Is it mint? Are you taking offers?

Thanks for the help guys! It is an awesome bottle, it has everything going for it, loads of embossing, color, pontil, city name, rarity.
I will forward him this link, maybe he can answer questions of condition and sale.
I will be putting his story on our website ASAP.k.  He sent me way too many pictures. LOL. Rightly so, it was a good dig! I will put a link on when I get the story up.
I hate to spoil the story, there was another one in the pit. The shoulder was broke out on it though. Could you imagine if the other was whole? WOW.

The bottle reminds me of an A. M. Bininger Old Dominion Wheat Tonic bottle that I dug years ago.
Same color. Forest Green, I called it.
Also in line with the Dr. Townsends Sarsaparilla bottles as far as the shape and time period.

Tony,

We have been digging, just a bunch of junk. I knew we were saving all of our luck for a good pit. Too bad I wasn't there! LOL.

Dave ,
What a great find ! Makes all the hours of digging all worth while when something like this rolls out of the hole !
I would definetly show it to a few Cure collectors before I sold !

Great Bottle for sure !

Dave - Didnt you guys dig a "crier" very similar to this a while back? Funny how almost unknown bottles from Philly made their way up   there. Just another episode in the freaky world of bottle diggin. Big  congratulations!

Yep, we did dig a shard and it is in the crier section. I remember drooling, speculating, wishing, dreaming,.......
Steve had dug yet another similar shard years back.
Maybe a wagon load of them made it here.LOL.

Brian,
Who are the big nut cure collector's? You are right, it would be cool for them to know it exists.

Ron,

I will be posting some pics of the wounded bottle. I talked to Steve tonight and he didn't find the missing piece/pieces. Might have to wait for the dry season and sift that badboy out. Wait until you see the color, it is hot.

Thanks,

Dave
