Great fossil finds!!! Since we're on the topic, I would like to share some of the fossils I find down here in Texas. I have studied and hunted for fossils since I was about 11. We call it shark's teeth hunting, but sometimes you find other interesting fossils. First picture is part of a Mosasaur jawbone. Enjoy the pics. Robert

Here is a top view so you can see the broken teeth and sockets. A Mosasaur was a huge reptile that looked like an overgrown alligator. Very vicious.

Here are two intact Mosasaur teeth that would have been in this type of jaw. They are reddish or brown in color and are round.

Here are some vertebrae, misc. fossils, and what we call skate's teeth. Back then they were all sharks. They looked like big manta and stingrays and ate mollusks, hence the rounded top for crushing. The largest are ptycodus gigantus and the one's with an elongated top are ptycodus whipplea or something to that effect.

Hey Bob...

Nice stuff... Great with the information, too!!

I know Midlothian is a huge place, but do you know a bottle collector/dealer named Les Potter by any chance?

Ron

Here are a few of my biggest shark teeth pictured w/ a half dollar for comparison. The one on the right with broken root is a whopper. Look at the root on the left tooth and imagine how much longer the right one would be had the root be intact. No they're not the huge pricy Megladon's on the east coast that cover your whole hand, but they sure make me happy finding them. What would I do without hobbies?

All of these fossils were found in a 30 mile radius from my home. The formations are the Eagle Ford Shale, Austin Chalk, and Taylor Shale formations. Limestone is a great sign for finding fossils. Hope you have enjoyed some of my fossil find. Happy fossil and bottle hunting!!!!!! Robert

I have been to Les's home and checked out his collection. He has some pretty nice bottles. I haven't seen him in about two years. He is pretty good buds with George Bryant, a bitters collector, who also lives here. Don't get to correspond with people a whole lot. With family time, bottle hunting & digging, ebay, and this website, my time is pretty much spent. If you need me to holler at him about something, I can try. Robert

Bearswede, if I can remember correctly, he had some nice wolfies, pine tree's, and Townsends. Robert
