Well first I would have to say it matters what type of bottles you are talking about.
Bottom embossed pontil marked whiskeys are not that uncommon but cheaper bottles like pontilled inks and medicines show bottom embossing very rarely. I dont think it was easy to add the embossing so people werent going to waste the time unless there was a good reason.

There are a few heavely embossed pontiled alcohol bottles out there. They are not common but are missed on alot of bottles because of refiring to clean up the bottom. Mostly sand of powdered glass pontils.

Some of the older black glass and dark olive Jano's and Hossetter's bottles come to mine.

When I meantioned pontilled base embossed whiskeys I was refering to bottles like Dyottsville cylinders which are fairly common (at least compared to pontil base embossed inks and medicines). The base embossing on these was an intentional part of the mold design.

this is verry nice to know .i have a a dark teal geen  almost forest green ,eight sided, inward rolled lip, op,umbrella ink withe the letters s11 on the bottom .i wasnt sure if it was a repo because of the embossing .sounds like there are several with open pontils and embossing . sure would be cool to find out what the s stands for .

heres a couple of pics i have 3 umbrellas the one on the right has been repaired but its in olive yellow and has a smooth base. the middle one is orange amber with a #1 on the base the left one is the teal open pontil with s11 on the base

Nice inks. I'm going to keep assuming the markings are mold numbers unless I see evidence indicating otherwise.
