Thanks, Jeff, for the great information! I'm very happy you made the point here in the forum, as questions on flasks crop up very often. I'm basically a bitters collector and would love to learn more about spotting the fake flasks that aren't so obvious, like the Jenny I had.
Thanks again,
Rich

Glad if I could be of some assistance Rich.  Too often I meet beginning collectors who have heard horror stories about reproductions and thus steer clear of flasks when there is in fact plenty of information available about known reproductions.  Educating oneself is the key here - although there are some reproductions that "look right" (and the Jenny Lind calabash you reference is one of them) there is enough hard data available for folks to distinguish between the good and the bad.  The novice flask collector would be prudent to not only study the McKearin charts but also make his or her initial purchases from a reputable dealer.  With knowledge and a dealer you can count on in your corner, it is not likely that you would mistakenly buy a reproduction.  Flask collecting can be expensive, yes, but it is not nearly as complex as many collectors are lead to believe...

The repro I ve had problems getting answers on is the simons centennial bitters....I heard it was made in only one color...amber...I saw one in light green aqua...light glass, very crude ,open pontil....
$85.00...with hole in base.

Good info on the simons centennial bitters, but it has little info on the originals and a ton of info on the repros. Well I guess you could say if you pick it up and you see its not a repro than it must be a original.

Buy from Reputable dealers.  It will help in resale also.  The site above is my favorite.  Glass Works is the sh-t.  LB in NJ
