Hi
I am quickly becoming a digging fan as i have an old 'midden' or trash pit at the end of my property. We are moving an early log house to the site and i want to empty the pit of its treasures--although now i must wait til spring as its frozen solid (i'm in ontario CAN) The pit was actually an old foundation from an earlier log building and it contains forged hardware bits as well as glass, pottery bits and cans cans cans! Alot of the stuff is from the early 20th century (my house is 1909) but i have faith that older things lie beneath. Now, my question is--the site from which we are taking the log house dates from 1828 and i'd like to dig there too. Where would a likely outhouse or trash pit be in relation to house location? -ie--how many feet away from the back door should i start? There's a creek ravine behind the house to the left and a driveshed to the right. Any advice on where to start?---thanks--mal
