OK, it's not really a bottle, but it fit in this forum.
Here is the link to the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130639093316

If anyone can tell me what this was used for, or any more about the company, I would appreciate it.
I found it interesting that the Hero Fruit Jar Company bought the business. Was that because of the milk glass or was it used in food straining?
Bill

That it a really KUHL item and I believe it really is a bottle of sorts, just not a usual one. It reminds me of my Bird Feeder / Waterer piece I shared awhile back. Not truly a bottle but just like one.

I would go for it and then research it and find out how it was used. I found great informtion on Google Patents and even I could use it, very user friendly.

Please let us all know how this turns out, VERY interesting piece.

Seeing that milk glass piece reminded me I had one from a recent dig that I hadn't cleaned up (& still havent). This one is similar in looks, maybe the Pat date can be traced to see what they were used for? Anyhow here are some pics

embossed: I C FILTER  PAT. DEC 1-03

Charlie--
Al's filter sure looks like the one I posted, doesn't it? I can't seem to find it on the patent search, though.  Do you think a vacuum filter would have a screen at both ends? WERE there electric vacuums with suction in the late 1800's? I thought they were all Bissell sweeper type units, with revolving brushes. Something I will look up, today.
Jim--
That is actually my auction. It has just been driving me batty, not knowing what the thing was for. Al has motivated me to dig further.
Al--
Thanks very much for posting your filter. If mine doesn't sell, I will take you up on your offer and keep them both on a whatizzit shelf.

I'll post any updates if I find anything else, fellas.
Bill

I really hate Google patents sometimes.  Looks like they hosed this one and linked several together and now it won't create a direct link to just one of them.  (Or I'm just not bright enough to create the correct link...)

Look for US patent # 745,912, issued December 1, 1903.

This is really fascinating to me, thanks for all the research you guys are doing. I tried but struggled to get not as far as you folks have.

I guess this really can't be classified as a bottle in any form but interesting none the less and at least somewhat related. I really enjoy this oddball stuff, wish I had examples of all these that you have been showing, especially the Milk Glass piece.
Now, if we can find the "SEED" connection we'll have it.. I now think the SEED is a compnay name that produced them under the Dec. 1, 03 patent.

Eureka! We're getting somewhere. George Johnson was one of the two fellas (read lawsuit particulars) who took over the business from the Hero Fruit Jar Company.
He was ordered by the NY Supreme Court to compensate Joseph Seed for his expertise and guidance.
It would appear that he pulled a fast one with that patent. It allowed them to to push Seed out of his position but it really didn't change anything on the device.
I wonder if the fella who posted that filter back in 2006 still has it. Are you able to tell if he is still a member or posts, Eric? I would like myself, or someone, to have all three filters in a display.
Thanks, you guys. A water filtering device that attaches to a building wall spigot.
Makes sense. I can't imagine the crud that was coming out of rivers in to the taps. It was the same water sewage and trash was being dumped in to.
Bill

I used to have a well and a filter was needed when sediments got stirred up in it. It clogged the filter/strainer in the washing machine supply line with tiny rocks.

Ya I lost a water heater to well sediment.. had about 12 inches of sand in the bottom before giving up the ghost..!

I know the implement I posted last night is much later than these, but I'm doubting the authenticity of that claim made to me about a vacuum cleaner attachment..

Charlie,
Hold on to that vacuum nozzle (grin). That could be a fourth piece of the display, if we can get all four together.... I do believe it is a water filter, as well.
