Hello fellow diggers; ..I was digging a large hole in Gainesville Fla. and found a couple of interesting items: a gallon Lithia water embossed Harris Springs Lithia Water Harris Springs S.C. ...light green-ish aqua--basically mint except for light stain. The other item is a Gallon? pig-eared crock jug that says "from THE CASPER CO. Winston-Salem N.C. Lowest Price Whisky House write for confidential list". I watched The same Lithia Water sell for 137.50 on eBay; ..but is it really worth that? or a couple of bidders really wanted it bad (regardless of true value). One of the best digs I have had in years, another digger was rude to the owner of the property and basically got everyone kicked out; ...the owner was nice to me as I was always was polite to her. The hole is wide open; ..bottles just oozing out of the bank, ..a gold mine. I dug four Florida SS sodas in one dig. I will add some pics later today.

The Casper jug is a good one!  I'd like to see a pic.  Not sure how much the jugs go for but the Casper cobalt whiskey bottles usually sell anywhere from $300-$500 on Ebay.

That is the famous Mammoth Cave. I went there as a boy in 1964. At dusk you can watch millions of bats fly out of there.

Thanks for the help fellow diggers (and the warning about the overhang); ...in Florida overhangs are real dangerous as the "sugar" sand can let loose at any time. That's one of my digging partners in the hole (I took the pic). I rarely dig alone; ..especially in a hole that deep. Here's a pic for you ncbred.

Thats a great jug!  Too bad it still didn't have the handle with it.  Here is one like it with the handle and the paper label on the back.

That is one awesome hole.  Great finds too, on the Litha springs and Casper jug.   I dig alone so I'm always aware of cave-ins.  Looks like you have the same issue as I do with all that dirt on top of the good layer.  Some days it looks like all that I do is shovel out dirt.  I pull down the sides to keep the walls from having over-hangs. Good luck on this dig.

Thanks to evryone for all the comments and suggestions. Thanks to ncbred for the Casper jug pics with label & handle. Thanks Kastoo; .I did not know repro handles ere available, ...I might go that route. The layer on top is all sand & dirt. I didi not get to clay/hardpan until about 12 or so feet down below the pure white wet sand(thats were all the jugs came from..I think I dug 6 or so jugs but only two had writing --the Casper & a Blum from Jacksonville. The bottles that came from the wet white sand were spectacular in condition, no ground wear, no damage, very clean. And yes, I do always chop down the overhang, but sometimes it takes 5 hours to remove all that sand before I reach the layer again. The property owner now has no trespassing signs posted and is calling the police to run off diggers, ..I never got harrassed as i was always very polite to the owner(and always filled my holes in as well), but as I said in my earlier post one jackass digger was rude to the owner and basically got me booted out as well, ...argghh. Here's a pic of me in the hole; ..I dont remember which bottle I am holding, could have been aWarner's safe remedy i dug there, still have not dug a cure version of that bottle yet...
