I'm been lurking and learning about cleaning and find it interesting. I wanted to build my own tumbler and have set about acquiring the motors to do so. I have actually acquired about 10 or 12 of them. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this on this forum, but I have MANY more than I need. Where can I list a picture of them and let you guys take them off my hands for a fair price. They are variable speed and meet the "jar doctor" standards in that you can slow them down or speed them up according to what you are doing. They have all been checked out and I guarantee them to work properly.  If this post is not appropriate, feel free to delete it -- but could you email and tell me where I might be able to list these. Thanks guys.

Ok... I finally found time to pull out these motors and take pics.

Some of these have a variable speed pully -- meaning you can adjust the speed of the motor by simply moving it back or forth without having to change the pulley.

These motors have all been tested and work fine.

They have the same specs that the Jar Doctor motors have. I had called him asking if I could use these to build a tumbler. He is a grand man and seemed to be very helpful. He certainly knows his stuff. I'd recommend calling him for all of your supplies. Anyway I read the specs to him and he said that they are the same as what he sells. It has something to do with the 1725 RPM's.

Awhile back I had wanted to get into tumbling because I had an antique dealer friend that dealt specifically with glassware. But once I found out how long it takes and how much you could charge for the service, I decided it wasn't worth it. I know NOTHING about glass collecting, I just wanted to do the tumbling since I had the motors anyway. They came off of printing presses that I've bought and refurbished in the past. They are not cosmetically pretty, but as I said that have all been checked out and do work and some are actually "prettier" than others. But cosmetics have nothing to do with the way the motor works.

The ones without the variable speed pulley can be switched to a variable speed... you simply have to buy the correct pulley.  I usually buy mine from my local machine shop. Sometimes they have them laying around (there again... not pretty) but they were letting me have them for about 7-10 bucks.

The only other thing is that some would need the cord. I used one cord to test the ones without and left it on the last motor I checked out cause I didn't have enough cord or plugs to put them on all of them. It's easy to do and only costs about $3.00.

Price -- the ones with the variable speed pulley are:  $25.00

Without variable speed pulley - $20.00.

Not sure how much shipping would be but it shouldn't be more than $20.00 or so.

So, that said. . . Let me know if you're interested and I'll send some pictures. I have 8 total, so it will be on a first come, first served basis.

Thanks for letting me put this up. I appreciate it. I would like to say that I think this is really interesting forum and when I was considering doing the glass cleaning, I learned ALOT from this forum. It's a shame that someone can't make money doing it.

Glass collecting seems like it would be alot of fun, wish I had the time and the know how. It brings back a part of our past that we would not otherwise have.

You guys are great.

Email me at sknow122@yahoo.com if you want to see more pics. They all look pretty much the same as the one posted. Some are green some are black. Some are a little more scratched than others, but if you wanted to make em pretty, they paint up really well......

if you build a large enough tumbler you can make money at it the range on prices is between 15 and 20 dollars per bottle so if you can tumble 5 bottles at the same time then it would be worth while to do professional tumbling
