Hello, new to the board and thought I would introduce myself. Hopefully I can share some pictures also, if i can figure out how. Had a metal detector sitting in garage about 5 years. This past summer, a friend suggested we go out. First field we hit, 3 musket balls. I was hooked. Later in the day we came across another field that looked good. Got the owners permission and started detecting. Found some great coins, but also happened to stroll into woods near field. Saw a few gopher holes and tons of broken pottery and bottles littering the ground and some building foundation. It looks like the place was dug out before, but they didn't do a great job. might have been dug out in the 70's or 80's due to rusted shovel and other things we found. looks like they dug out the privy and a few other places. I dug in what looked like a privy but only found some broken bottle pieces. I moved a couple feet away and started digging. Found a lot of beautiful pottery chunks, pajama buttons, horse shoes, and bottles. I'll try and post pictures. The great thing about this hobby is you get out only after putting effort in. it takes research and a lot of effort, hit and miss, to find stuff, especially historic items. But once you pull your first bottle out of the ground and relize it hasn't seen the light of day in 100-150 years, its an unbelievable feeling.
